I watched it...not the usual type of "mass catastrophic event" movie.
Many characters died - leaves audience with things to think about.
Would recommend it.

They created some ark like transport vessel that would carry some people to ensure the survival of mankind - reflects noah's ark in the bible, animals included.
The disaster eventually settled, continents realigned, and the date reset to year 0001.
