Based on a novella by well-acclaimed writer Dr Catherine Lim, The Leap Years is a movie about a young Singaporean girl having chance upon her special someone on 29th February. She decides to base her intuition on an Irish leap year tradition that no man will refuse any request of a lady and invites him out for a date. Together, they embark on a romantic journey that spans over 12 years, meeting only thrice in 12 years, on the leap year.
Together with a colourful cast including Joan
Chen, Ananda Everingham, Li Lin, Qi Yu Wu, Vernetta Lopez, Nadya
Hutagulung – THE LEAP YEARS aims to capture the fascinating
sensibilities and the essence of life in contemporary Singapore.
Opens 29 February 2008

Saw the trailer for Leap Years earlier on, thought it seemed familiar.
In my secondary school days, prolly 9 years ago (hai... 想当年), Catherine Lim came by for a talk one time and she narrated 3 stories. One of which was very similar to the storyline seen in this trailer. I'm not so sure if she published those stories in the end but one was of this leap year thing (i think that version was set in the 80s, included the hotel new world collapse with a bitter sweet ending), second one was of a woman with tattoos filled all over her body falling in love with another man after her husband died and I forgot the 3rd one.
She is a very engaging storyteller on stage.
this film was made in 2005 i think
but oni now then she de release
It's quite cool. The shot in the trailer taken on the roof top reminded me of a very moving scene in romantic movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Wong Li Lin still looks really graceful.
Some said the movie not nice leh...
It was up during Valentine's Day already at some specific cinemas.

me too.
i like to read Catherine's books
hmm i think i might catch this movie...
But I don't suggest you buy the OST for it, it's a rip-off from ryuchi's Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence oST.

Song is not inside the movie, its just inside the trailer.

no wonder li lin still looks quite young in the show.
The Leap Years, aka Leap of Love, was a long process in the making. Having tracked this movie for a number of years now, it is going to make its debut this year premiering exactly on Feb 29 no less. While there were the usual production woes, I thought that this was one of those projects that remain in development hell, and given the overlong trailers being played in the cinemas - I didn't time it, but it was more than 3 minutes long - I thought it would be one of those that would sink immediately upon release, despite having international flavour with the casting of Joan Chen and Ananda Everingham. Well, the good news is the Singapore's first English language romance movie passes the litmus test. Continues at http://anutshellreview.blogspot.com/2008/02/leap-years.html

the music played during the trailer is very nice. always hear it on the bus on the way to work.
