Perhaps you are not a getai lover or maybe you go not understand or even like hokkien song ? A musical and getai is two different thing at all , is like comparing prata and pizza . For me this movie is the only one that make me really weep watching it esp the last part where i really couldn't control my tears and they just rolled out of my eyes a couple of times . I think this movie really score big in the weep factor , i give 10 out of 10 tissue box rating for it . Wehn i went out , i heard a few gers actually have to look else where just to prevent themself from crying . May want to get the dvd version although my mum keep asking me not to buy it , but she did praise the songs in the movie which i really like also . Everyone please support this movie .

Damm bought the soundtrack of 881 from jurong east populor , it say got 3 music video but just couldn't find nor play it . And also not all the song in 881 is included inside the soundtrack . Quite disappointed . Luckily it got the ( sick pple song ) inside , very meaningfull can sympathise with it as i have a relative whom die of cancer also real torture to just battle it .

Watched the movie and found the 1st 3/4 of the film very interesting, funny and mindee is cute
Agree with some of the posters here saying it gets draggy at times. The ultimate draggy part is when the 2 papayas hold each other and the camera spins... Its kinda over dramatic, agonizing even as "chapter" after "chapter" drones pass.
I like the colours and music in the film though.. and did I see I find mindy cute?

60 senior citizens enjoy free screening of Raintree Pictures' "881"
SINGAPORE: Dozens of senior citizens were invited to a free screening of MediaCorp Raintree Pictures' latest film "881", escorted by the movie's leading actor, MediaCorp artiste, Qi Yuwu.
Most of the 60 senior citizens came from PEACE-Connect Neighbourhood Link, a charity group that takes care of the elderly in Kampong Glam.
The S$1-million film, which is about singers who entertain the dead during the seventh lunar month, was a hit with the audience.
"The movie's very funny. It also shows how 'getai' was like in the past," said one of the senior citizens.
"I was touched by the story of the Papaya sisters. I even cried," said another.
The movie's theme song "One Half" is also getting rave reviews online.
The music video has received about 18, 000 hits on YouTube and is among the top 100 most viewed videos.
The movie "881" is now showing at all major cinemas. - CNA/ac -

Its quite nice but its gets boring at the end.

Actually, the show can be made more touching and funny...
They act magic ah... cartoon effect ah... making the show seems so unrealistic...
The small papaya suddenly collapse because of shooting arrow... I was like huh???
But now I noe y the show is called "881" --- ba ba yi ... think sound like papaya.. -

Juz came back from the movie.
I must say this is the best sg created movie i watched so far.. in terms of visual, audio, humour and humanity..
laughed throughout the movie, but also felt the xin suan..
some scenes were very touching..
Qi Yu Wu went to sell his beloved pet (chicken) to raise money..
Xiao Mu Gua dying.. hugging Da Mu Gua, cryinging and singing the hokkien song..
Da Mu Gua went home to visit her mother but she kept the door closed.. and sang that hokkien song "ever since u left, u never returned.. i waited from dark till dawn.."
the part when the papaya sisters kena assassinated and both were lying on the ground.. calling each other's name..
Went to many Getais before when i was younger, but dun think i ever heard those songs in the movie before.. im curious whether the papaya sisters really sing at getais in real life.. they sing really very well, especially Wang Xin, her voice is very good. Never knew she has such a talent when she was with TCS.
I feel that Da Mu Gua (Yann Yann) looks like Zhuang Mi Xue (Michelle).
Tho Qi Yu Wu din utter a word in this movie.. but it's all gan qing xi on his part.. and i think he really played the role very well.. esp the part when he cried.. speaks louder than words.
Initially I din really feel that this movie is worth watching.. but bcos of the advertising on tv, and my mum wanting to watch.. i went with my family.. and glad that I din miss it. -

i felt touched but i din cry while watching..
nobody did ba.. all i heard was talking..
"she shaved botak lah.. really botak sia.. botak..."
that v touching part and those v irritating ple, talk and talk..

Went to watch it yesterday with my dear...quite surprised to find that the cinema was nearly full, in fact when we booked the ticket around an hour before the show, only left a few seats on the back row, the rest all front rows, but when we went in, even the front rows are also filled
First time watching a Hokkien show, I find it quite enjoyable, I recognized some of the songs because my parents like to play those songs in the house before But think you have to understand the language in order to find the humor behind it...even if the way they speak sounds a bit crass and rude at times, but that's what made the movie more original..
I didn't quite like the ending part, esp the twirling part where they showed Little Papaya losing her hair...they could have done it in a more artistic way lolz...for instance including flashback while the room spinned...dunno, I just find the spinning part a bit unnatural and awkward...and it is freaking long too!
Another thing that made me quite pissed off was someone's phone ringing in the middle of the show, and as if that wasn't bad enough, he took his phone and started talking loudly on it!
Even when some of the other audience tried to get him to stop he talked louder instead 
Until got someone even shouted,"Diam la!" during the show I am guessing a lot of Hokkien speaking ppl watching the show yesterday

this movie really a HIT, not in my lifetime i remember a movie to attract alot of old folks to come n see.
n it also promote Getai fever. just now on my way back from work, the bus jam at Geylang as there is a getai stage dat gather alot of crowds.
