No u didnt miss it.
This is my explanation a few days ago.
I think that Rain's mum in the present day has abit mental problem.
This is due to the death of Rain which cause her mum to reach those kind of self-denial state (keep thinking that Rain is still alive)
This explain why everytime Jay visit Rain's house, her mum always said that she is either asleep or sick but not saying she is already dead.
For the photo thingy.. other classmates in the photo is 'EXTRA' crews..
lol.. which mean donneed to know who they are one..
My explanation is same for some of the member here..
the faster u play the piano song the further u go back.
to me the piano score has the same effect for everyone (regardless of present and past)
Which mean.. u play faster u went backward in time.. u play normal speed u travel forward time..
Therefore Jay, who has the ability to play song damn fast is able to return to time even before the death of Rain.. I believe he is trying to change the history.. this can be explain when rain saw jay she like didnt know him..
lastly.. this is the tricky part.. since the piano jay played to return to the past has been destroyed by the big ball thingy.. this cause jay to be 'permanent resident in the past' which therefore he become part of the past instead of the present.. therefore everyone can saw him.. (by logic.. if he return to past he will first return to the old grand piano room.. from there to his classroom which is the same as Rain's class room need 108 steps lei.. don tell me along the way he didnt see anyone? or he close his eye all the way to bet his luck?)
Therefore in the end jay manage to be together with rain and take photo together as a class in that class photo..

most movie doesnt really has an logic content especially this kind of time travelling story..

he's darn well my idol and i'm not even a chinese.
but i can tell his songs are deeper than abyss.
i too had a confusing time with Bu Neng Shuo De. Mi mi's ending.
but thanks to you guys i finally got some truly intelligent answers that satisfy the whole storyline, honestly. (from gordonator, nep, mystee, rainee and many more others)
maybe this is how jay had actually envisioned his viewers to be satisfied; with them exchanging brilliant ideas.
quite cool eh.
and you guys just made it cooler.

i think the plot is confusing.. but after looking at discussion from other people, i can understand it..
Firstly. Xiao yu is living simultaneously in the past and present. She would travel to the future whenever she want. And whenever she travel to the future, only the first person she see., will be able to see her.
Then, xiao yu mother, she was living in a state of denial like wat had been said in this forum. She is those that thought xiao yu went crazy, when xiao yu keep saying that she was able to travel to the future. But when jay went to the house, and her mum say the picture xiao yu draw, she finally believe her .._ that she indeed able to travel into the future.
Then Jay did went back to the past, and why everyone was able to see him because the rule " at first sight mark one destiny" only apply to going to the future not going to the past.. I think jay was stuck into the past and will not be able to travel back,since the old piano is being destroyed. Although his present dad being left alone, jay is still able to see his dad of(1979).
Dayong role i think does not prove much significance. Except to link the past and future together and to show the effect of times... (that 20 yrs ago da yong is present, and 20 yrs later he had grown old and handicap)
So jay went back to the past. Think he did not travel excatly 20yrs back, coz if that is the case, Xiao yu would have died. Also it will be nighttime if he arrived in the past. So i guess he went slightly longer than 20yrs. Coz sine the building was tearing down, he had to play slightly faster.
But there is one question left unsolved. When jay returned to the past, wat was the expression Xiao yu gave/?
Situation 1: She was puzzled. Indicating she did not know jay. Meaning she and jay has to start all over again. And that jay travel back to the time xiao yu has not found out the secret of time travel.
Situation 2: She was happy and slightly suprised. Coz she did not expect jay to appear in front of her. And it was at a time xiao yu has already found out the secret. Meaning she already knew jay.
Personally i hope it is situation 2. Coz it will be much happier for xiao yu. Rather than situation 2, which means they have to start all over again.. -
But if Jay return earlier than 20years which mean if he play the piano again he can return back to 20 years later in which the piano and the building have not been destroyed. On the other hand, only the first person at sight can see jay apply to jay as well?
Ok i think i complicated the plot, the ending was beautiful but some question unanswer. -

Yeap, I just noticed in the movie that what Kensongs say is true. Jay actually did not lose his father... and this is because of his ability to "crush" the curse of the Secret but only on himself as only he is talented enough to play faster which allowed him to travel way back even before Xiao Yu found the Secret scores. (So Xiao Yu did not know him in the end) The fact that the curse is "crushed" by Jay was firstly that he was able to go BACK in time... which wasn't the actual use of Secret as it was only to go to the FUTURE and then go back to the current time.
So first Jay's talent allowed him to go BACK in time... which was subtle and i believe Jay did this subtlety because he wants his viewers to think.
And so being able to go back in time which... was not supposed to be... the "At First Sight Marks One's Destiny" curse did not apply to Jay because the fact that he turned the whole darn thing upside down due to his talent.
Being in a place MORE than 20 years behind, he can play the piano again to go back to the "current time" where the piano was not destroyed yet. There, he might be able to stop the construction vehicles from destroying it... then keep it for himself whatsoevernot. Being able to go back, he can meet his father! (all he has to do now most prolly is to redo the things that the Jay-who-did-not-time-travel did to equalize the future)
Then he has the whole piano to himself! can go back and fourth, back and fourth... meet his dad, meet xiao yu and guess whats the best part?
He can undo the accidental kissing scene with Sky! With that, Xiao Yu (who most likely STILL can only be seen by Jay or the first person who sees her) will be happy and won't get an asthma attack that kills her. and THAT Xiao Yu can also go back to the past! 2 person can now time travel. And how do we know she became happy? The Class Photograph! Remember she was SUPPOSED to die on graduation day? THat picture shows her smiling WITH the class and Jay (her hero) standing beside her ON the graduation photo! GRADUATION! so she made it alive. (thanks to Jay's undoing)
And Jay on the picture? well, where do u think he's talent might be from? I have a feeling because he actually graduated TWICE from the same school. YES, the very same Jay. He's present goes back to the past, attends the same school OVER again with Xiao Yu, and goes back and sits with his own "current" school (remember he hasn't graduated since he travelled way beyond 20 years?) therefore his "past" learning experience is brought forward into the "present" making him double talented.
and then u see the connection?
what made him ABLE to "crush" the Secret curse at first?
His TALENT! that no one else has! because no one graduates TWICE like him! ta daa! a circular motion stuff.
goes back to the past with a talent brought from the past that will happen in the future.XD
saves Xiao Yu by undoing the accidental kiss, stays with her in the past and grow with her as of the same age (because thats the only way as THE FACT IS SHE IS FROM THE PAST), returns to the present with the same "ageing"age (1 day older in the past means 1 day older TOO in the present) and goes back whenever he wants.
But the basis of all this comes from one single sentence in the story we might have greatly overlooked... which made it possible for ALL of this to happen.
and that is the tagline of the show:
"I will find you no matter what."
this tagline brought Jay to his undaunted willing to find her, smash through the window, play a freaking-fast time whirling score, re-do the history and maybe even restart a relationship that was supposed to be very strong already.
Realise how come the Xiao Yu loves Jay so much even when she just met him? Because deep inside her... she knew he was the one (that actually saved her and lived with her but she doesn't know THIS yet because it was a past that is to happen in the future)
and THAT is what Jay Chou wanted to bring out:
sometimes you love someone... you just don't know where that feeling comes from right? you start to have funny ideas how this feeling actually came about... like, you believe there's something in your past that in engraved deep in you that he/she is the one... very unexplainable.
and THAT is the beauty that lies therein;
LOVE.
And LOVE knows no Boundaries: He has a girlfriend from the Past. And he will do all those "I will find you no matter what" sh!t just to let the LOVE live. Like we should too. At least, none of us has a girlfriend from the past.
Jay’s gonna say “issit THAT hard to maintain YOUR relationship when I can do something like this to mine?”
