Anyone watched SiCKO? Well it isn't released yet but somehow I got hold of it. In a nutshell this is a documentary-movie. Talking about the poor healthcare services in America.
One of the example is a guy, having his middle and no-name (or ring finger) finger cut off whilst working with a machine. He lives in US and has no healthcare insurance. The doctor asked him to choose whether to reattach his middle finger for 60k or his ring finger for 12k.
Over at Canada, one guy got his whole hand chopped off, and he paid nothing to get his hand reattached back.
This movie is basically talking about FREE and FULL healthcare coverage in Canada. And it goes sidetracking to talk about how people in France get free college loans and stuff.
I mean, FREE healthcare man. Not our triple 'M's that our Singapore system has. Yes, although their taxes are big, they still can afford a big house, a car, food, and crap. Oh by the way, the healthcare system isn't corrupted. The doctors put in passion in their work, that is, helping patients to recover. No payments needed for hospital stay, and there's only ONE CASHIER in the general hospital. Which gives out money to patients to ensure that they can get home via a public transport safely. I mean, wtf? -

yeah but the GST over in canada is really really high man. It doesnt hurt the canadian government to attach for free i tell you

At an average of 13% to 16%, I think we're reaching that level soon. But will we get that level of welfare when we reach that point?
Generally, its not about the raise in tax, but how they justified it... -
Actually most countries have some form of GST or VAT or whatever they call it in their terms, which to me is really fine. But the difference with other country system is they subsidise heavily especially in the healthcare sector so to assist the poor.

The more i think about it, the more i think singapore is heading toward the america way. Dun be surprise if in future, we get dump by hospital when we cant afford the medical fee.
Everything about the america healthcare is so similar, like local insurance company is too trying to find reasons not to pay out and also the govt decide that individual should be responsible for their person healthcare cost.
Though we have low personal income tax but all the hidden indirect taxes all kind of add up to the same level as those in the welfare nation which provide free medical healthcare and education. Therefore it is like we too pay the same high amount of tax but not having the same level of protection. -

I like this show, how such a wonderful system that even the poor people are not denied/delay in their treatment, just because they cannot afford of it.
The countries Canada, UK, France and even a third world country Cuba use such a system, the same medicine cost US$126 in US, only cost US$0.05 in Cuba hospital, just wonder how come...

No need to pay any medical insurances, cause there is none
No need to set my money in CPF for medical
No need to watch all kind of charity shows on tv ...... lol
But for now, Singapore's healthcare is still alright, world rank #6
