A seasoned detective named Hei, and his street-smart and alcoholic former partner turned private investigator named Bong, team up in a gruesome murder case that gradually digs out the skeletons in their closets.
Bong loses his joie de vivre but later becomes entangled with the happy-go-lucky Feng, while Hei is spinning a dangerous web unbeknownst to his newly wedded wife Susan. Every step of their journey takes them closer and closer to one another, until a shocking denouement in which no stone is left unturned and no one can escape unscathed.

Confession of Pain is draped in deep melancholy. From story to cinematography, one cannot escape the strong moodiness painted by the creative trio of directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, and together with writer Felix Chong, this movie is widely anticipated as the one which will top their earlier acclaimed creation, Infernal Affairs. And signs were positive too, as they had snagged great leads in Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

Errr....actually Christopher Doyle was the visual consultant in Infernal Affairs.
Not surprised if they took it from there, or possibly - Doyle is involved in this movie as well. -
Tony Leung was initially offered the role of Takeshi Kaneshiro's detective character but the directors couldn't find anyone suitable to play the role of villain and they felt that it will be boring casing Tony in another good guy's role. so in the end they decided to let Tony plays the villain.
Tony Leung was quite fed up actually when he was told of this....

love the way takashi swagger in the drunken manner..
this movie is slightly better than infernal affairs, very straight foreward, and have elements of humour in it. haha.. great movie! -

tony leung feedbacked that he's looking for change after playing so many sorrow characters lately. he's even joked about about doing a comedy with takashi.

Towards the end Bong finally know the truth but he din arrest Hei, is Hei a bad guy? -
i watched it last week..
i must say i'm disappointed.
perhaps i have higher expecations ba.. bcos the main leads are tony and takeshi..
but at the beginning of the show, i already know tony is the murderer, and how the plot is going to be like.. nothing new to me lor.. i expect more mystery and thrill ba.. like Wu Jian Dao.
However, Takeshi really very shuai wor.. -

but tony always plays some dark character...dont remember him ever playing a happy character
