Variety confirms today that reports that a second straight-to-DVD sequel to 1997's "Starship Troopers" is in the works are most certainly more than just, well, rumours.
"Starship Troopers 3" will be written and directed by Ed Neumeier -- who wrote the first two installments, not to mention sci-fi cult classic "RoboCop" and reunite some of the cast from the original film, including Casper Van Dien, who'll be back to reprise his role as gun-toting Johnny Rico - now a general, whose recruited back into duty to squash some more bugs.
"The script is along the same line as the first," Van Dien says on his website. "It is awesome".

actually the first one was a mega epic.
the movie had no real story, but its action and special effects were just too good. that's what it made ppl see it. some movies u just dont see it for story, this is one of those movies.
btw this kind of show is not made now. Since then when did u all seen a good bugfest like this. nothing beats a good old monster romp like this.
at least give it some credit for that alone.. -
if part 2 sucks that much that it can't even meet the big screen and has to be released straight to video,that say much for part 3.........

didnt caught ST2... hope they do a good one for 3... their storyline abit same as starcraft also got bugs but no alien...

most of the time, these straight to video movies are made by unknown studio,
unknown film makers, unknown cast and with so-so special effects.
in another word - Grade C.
