I feel that Crouching tiger hidden dragon is a poor movie. During that period Amoh were very curious or want to build more relation with chinese's industry. That was why they given off academy award to that movie. Personally i feel the story line sucks. Good movie don't only come with good actor and actresses. The whole combination is the most important. The music, sound effects, visual effect, the story line and etc. They are the soul or pillars of the movie. You can spend multi million on that movie but sometime it does not produce good result. -

This is just one hell of commercial movie.
selling point 1: Jay, he's famous bcos of his music, esp in Asia. As long as he's in the movie, no matter how silly he look or how bad he act, Jay's die hard fan will still watch the movie. Zhang Yimou can find someone who fits the role better than Jay, but that wont ensure a big group of youngster going to watch it.
selling point 2: The low cut dress. Almost every girl in movie wear low cut, with the boods squeezed too. Such dress should be in Angmo style ancient movie, not chinese ancient movie. Perhaps this is not zhang yimou's idea, maybe the producer wants this movie to sell in western countries too. So their dress code somehow suits the ancient western culture rather than chinese.
sellling point 3: Over-decorated palace. Out of the "GuZhuang" movies, i think this one spent the most on decorating the palace. This is one of the part that he do to make the movie become a "big movie", can say spent how much how much producing it.
selling point 4: Gong Li + Chow Yun Fat. Both of them are prestigious, well known in Aisa and even hollywood. This is same as selling point 1, but Gong ang chow targets the older generation instead. They create a "must watch" factor to make ppl watch the movie for the sake of watch the two of them. -
a very nice movie tt i will introduce ot my frens but the costumes worn by the female in the show abit off. watch and u will know. kinda absurb. didnt know china so open wan.

For his previous attempts, he has utilized CTHD star Ziyi Zhang in both Hero and House of Flying Daggers (HFD), and had resorted to casting big Asian stars like Jet Li, Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, all of whom are known actors to the West, and the likes of Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro. Here, he dug deeper, and went to snag CTHD star, and another recognizable face Chow Yun-Fat, as well as ditching Ziyi Zhang for his original muse, Gong Li, in roles fit for royalty.

Seen it.
My review: Not surprisingly, Jay Chow can't act. The movie is saved only by Chow Yun Fatt and Gong Li.

movie wise the storyline sux! incest lar, plotting to overthrow throne.
the only things that are good in tis movie are the luxury background n blink blink costume. not forgeting gong li. -

i watch the movie tonite n i said overall it is watchable. but somehow i feel zhang yimou too focus on overspending on the blink blink cosume. afterall HK is no hollywood n most likely pple will spend it on pirated vcd for chinese movies.

-storyline way too weak and predictable
-the dialogue was almost non-existence and poor
-the costume and setting an overkill...not realistic at all, just like
the fighting scenes....how in the world did Jay survived? The arrows and spears
must have eyes
Nothing compared to ZYM's earlier movies eg Ju-dou. -
Actually when I first heard of the name "Curse of the Golden Flower" I thought it was some B grade movie with unknowns till I saw Gong Li's picture
But from what is said, it still sounds like a B grade movie -
