I'm not sure why many have cited this to be yet another epic fantasy movie in the mould of Lord of the Rings, or even Harry Potter. Perhaps it's the release date, given that all make it to the silver screen toward the end of the year. However, given that the story is based on a novel written by a sixteen year old at the time, the shades of familiarity stem from something on a grander scale. And to me, it's Star Wars: A New Hope.

Dragons with personality...i like!
theres gonna be 5 dragons involve...so far only 1 has been revealed in this part 1. that blue female dragon, Saphira.
*actually theres a 2sec glimpse of the 2nd dragon, frightening one..

Hope the next Part2 & 3 they will retain the character like thoes in LOTR.

I dun like.. too different from the book..
Many mistakes oso..
Many explanations were left out.. Many characters too... Details too little..

Arya's hair is supposed to be black, not blonde... and no pointy ears? Murtagh was supposed to be extremely reluctant to enter the Varden.. not so happy go lucky go in de... Brom not supposed to die like this! Omg!!
Saphira IS NOT A POKEMON!!! SHE GROWS! NOT EVOLVES!!! T.T Arya is supposed to be more Princess like.. and more reluctant to be so closed towards Eragon..
Perhaps they not enough time to make a more detailed movie loh.. But as compared to LOTR... this is like a peanut.. -
In my opinion some movies were made bring out the heart and soul of a novels' characters and storyline. To my knowledge Tolkien fought in the trenches in WWI. The feelings of soldiers in battles and the prelude of death will never be forgotten and he could put many of these elements in his novels.
Today, we demand more out of the movies and several works had struck a deeper cord in the viewers' mind. LOTR, Narnia and Reign of Fire were just a few titles that set a standard and yard stick for what a Fantasy and Dragon movie should be. There could be an evolution as movie goers mature but for now Eragon is not revolutionary yet.
LOTR - 5/5 and cheers to the Nazgul
Narnia - 4/5 and cheers to the Griffins ('German Bombers')
Reign of Fire - 4/5 specially for the Dragons
Eragon - 3/5 more for the magical spells, power bolts and fire balls -
the author got the idea from LOTR

the movie was badly received by the critics. and although it didn't do well at the boxoffice, it managed to earn enough ticket money to avoid being a flop.

Saw the movie, reviewing based on entertainment value = 1 out of 10.
1.) They shld pick actors that is suitable for the roles. In my opinion, only Jeremy Irons is a fit, the rest is a total mismatch. I felt that the main actor shld be younger, abit chao lao to me.
2.) The movie has no kick. Even the flight sequence of the dragon seems very boring and predictable.
3.) Yes, the dragon seem more pokemon than dragon to me. (Gotta catch them all ) The dragon is too sissy for my liking. In my opinion, they shld at least find a woman who have a deeper voice. (In my opinion shld be a guy voicing not a woman thus making the dragon seems sissy)
4.) If they wan to copy and win over LOTR movie series, they shld at the very least do something more spectacular. Send 2 killable idiots to retrieve the dragon egg? WTF? LOTR has super cool and mean looking witch kings!
LOTR has spectacular fight sequences, this has a super boring and predictable fight sequence.
Even Reign Of Fire with the botak Matthew McConaughey seems more interesting than this. -
If Eragon was to be screened before LOTR it wouldn't have been so bad. We all know what veteren actors as Jeremy irons (Kingdom of Heaven) and John Malkovich (The Messenger: The story of Joan of Arc) can do but with an average script and limited screen time that's all there is.
Fight scenes and sequences, shooting locations and computer animation effects asided, LOTR in fact has a very strong cast and even supporting actors with charisma and more potential. I do not have to name them all but prior to the film and running concurrently that year we saw them in The matrix and X-men. Later we also see them in Doom, Silent Hill, Pirates of Caribbean, Troy, Click etc. To me LOTR is a movie that is seriously going for awards while Eragon is a film on a tight budget hoping a young face can win some cheers from the teens. My god that lad's charisma as a knight and warrior dwarfs in the presence of legolas an Elf!
One thing is for sure any dragon movies from now is going to have to beat those handsomely crafted masters of the air, breather of flames from Reign of Fire. Those who have watched ROF will probably agree that the artistes created the dragons from scratch to life!
Too bad for Eragon. The sequels will have to do better.
