February 1945. Even as victory in Europe was finally within reach, the war in the Pacific raged on. One of the most crucial and bloodiest battles of the war was the struggle for the island of Iwo Jima, which culminated with what would become one of the most iconic images in history: five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi.

Haha thanks for quoting my post and transfering it here. Anyway another interesting stuff about this movie that it actually have 2 parts. The first part "Flags of out fathers" tell the American side of the battle. The 2nd one, "Letters from Iwo Jima" tells the Japanese side (read my post for the "Letters from Iwo Jima" trailer) which is to be released in December. Both movies are inter-related with each other

I nodded in agreement when it was mentioned a single photo taken during combat has the power to make or break a war. At a time when the war chest is drained and the battle seemed to be drawn out longer than expected, you need public support to cough out funds and make donations to the manufacturing of arms. In the dying days of WWII, that photo you see above, gave reason to galvanize the American public into making donations for that final push. Now think Abu Graib. Nuff said, on its adverse impact to the war machinery.
