I think the movie will be quite a big hit.
Tons of TF fans will watch it whether they like the designs or not.
I'd like to state that Megatron in the above picture is his true Cybertronian form
Basically he hasn't taken a disguise yet on earth.
So for the transformers you will see 2 forms of each. -

All the car forms in the show are based on cars by General Motors. Of course the tanks/helicopters have nothing to do with General Motors.
