Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a black police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the distracted district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful black Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more.

Actually, I bought this quite a while and DVD was collecting dust. Then, sekali, on oscar night, it won best picture.
Aroused our curiosity so we gathered a handful of friends over for movie night. Watched it and we sort of go "yeah.....it's good......" Many sub-plots.

I watched it last night, extremely gripping, I give it 9.5/10. Not recommended for people who don't know how to appreciate it.
Cinemas here will be rescreening this soon to come. This movie beat brokeback mountain for best picture in this year's oscars. Won another 2 oscars for dunno what. Won 3 Oscars. Another 25 wins & 44 nominations Link below says it all:

If i made a 3gpp copy of the movie just for my phone's transflash, you can be sure its good stuff. If Lee Ang watched this movie, he would agree that he shouldn't win the oscar for best picture after all.
