Great Movie! Not been to war yet, But can understand enough to know that the film's protrayal is not entirely off. Soldiering is mind numbingly boring and the film manages to carry that across - and yet remain very entertaining and interesting.
Now, if you read some reviews, you will see phrases like "for a war movie there is not enough action". I think the reviewers betray their lack of military experience...I think there is more than enough action. Not action as in fire fights wtc, but as in the shenanigans idle soldiers get up to amongst each other. Not as trite, but equally as entertaining.
Jake Gyllenhall...He's there. Loved him in donnie darko, can't understand why he did that inadequte disaster movie, fabulous in Jarhead. Jamie Foxx still manages to surprise me.
8.5/10
Edit: The boot camp scene reminded me of the opening scene in Full metal jacket. Its not the original but its not bad.
