Agreed. Well said.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:just watched it.
Cinematographically interesting. Different techniques employed to create the mood but you know what they say about editing - it is best when you don't realise it is there and works on your subconscious. Lighting was fabulous in many parts of the movie - I kept waiting for the excerpt in the story when Sayuri was spotted by famous painter catching the light in the hands cos I wanted to see how that scene will be lit.. but it was taken out of the movie. Oh well... her dance scene was interesting as well.
Storyline , as bear says, mediocre. But it's not a movie you watch for the story I guess. I think people just want to watch it cos its abt geisha's. Unfortunately much fo the information about geishas in the novel did not manifest in the movie.
Still.. its a visual feast and entertaining enough. I loved Gong Li in this movie. She's great as Hatsumomo. She comes across as passionate, couldn't-care-less, boldly wicked, but at the same time, you can't help by pity her.
Me also.Originally posted by Hir0shi:The movie I have been waiting for! Definitely won't miss it.

It's banned in China and Japan, I think. Japanese angry that the movie maker didn't use a Jap actress for the lead role.Originally posted by dragg:it will most probably be banned in china.
