Trailers have shown that Skull Island is inhabited by dinosaurs, but the production team has confirmed that the Skull Island dinosaurs are not the familiar species. Inspired by the works of Dougal Dixon, the designers have imagined what 65 million years of evolution would have done to the dinosaurs. The names are taken from those given to them in associated merchandise.
Their modified T-rex is now V-Rex Vastatosaurus Rex descended from T-Rex Tyrannosaurus Rex, but is far bigger at about 24 metres (80 feet) long. It also has three fingers, as opposed to T-Rex's two fingers.
Ferrucutus seems to be a ceratopsian. Only the skull has been revealed so far.
Foetadon seems to be a stocky carnivorous dinosaur.
Kong is a colossal ape standing about 6 metres (20 feet) high.
Piranhadon is a terrifying cartilaginous fish about 9 metres (30 feet) long.
Terapusmordax is a flying reptile, but appears to be a dinosaur, as opposed to a pterosaur.
Venatosaurus appears to be descended from dromaeosaurs such as Velociraptor and is about 5 metres (17 feet) long.

The trailer shows a stampede of sauropods, as well as giant insects, including what appear to be giant wetas.
