I just watched this movie at the Cinema. Its Russian w/english substitles.
Basically, its a good vs evil fantasy, set in contemptorary Russia. The action is a little over the top at times, and the editing is very "MTV". Overall the movie is like reading a Neil Gaiman Novel.
7.3/10.
I think the sequels will be better.
Its weird. There seems to be a sudden glot of good russian movies. 9th company about the afghan-russian war, and wolfhound, another fantasy looks set to be great as well.
Its looks like its gg to be a great Autumn. -

Well...
Basically, There are ppl born with special magic powers. These are known as the Others. Now, these others band themselves into Dark Others and LIght Others, the latter being the 'good' ones. One day both bands met on a bridge. Neither refused to give way and a battle ensued.
The leader of the light others, seeing that both sides were so evenly met that there was no way for the battle to be resolved w/o a major loss of lives, decided to call for a truce.
As part of the truce, they agreed that no party was allowed to try and influence new Others. New Others must be allowed to choose a side of their own free will. As part of the agreement, the Light others set up a group of others to watch over the Dark others, in order to ensure that they do not break the Truce. This is the Niight Watch. The Dark others set up a similar org called the Day watch.
And so the truce had been kept for many many years. Both sides are balanced and the truce was intact. One day, however, one Other that is very powerful will arise. That other is so powerful that he/she will tip the balance in favor of one side or the other.
The movie shows the rise of this OTher. -

$7.50 for one show? Walau, if you come Malaysia with a student ID, mah very cheap... here RM4-5 can get one ticket liau
Anywayz... I think Night Watch is like Elektra?
Donno lar, the story line seemed to be the same, but it has yet to come out in Malaysia... only sound of thunder and transporter 2 are the latest movies screening now...
The others include Wait Till You are Older, Sky High, Four Brothers and Legend of the Red Curse...

I really like the premise of Night watch. I actually thought i would have enjoyed the movie more if it had been set in medieval times. The opening scene is, imo, very good. Then, as the movie went on, the plot became a little confusing and contrived.
Yes, this first movie isn't really that good, but it is certainly no Van Helsing.
I eargerly await the sequels because i think there is potential there for a great film. -
it seems to be over hype,read from somewhere that the special effects are better than matrix but I dun think so
I watched this without subtitles and was really blur,whos that fat lady in the first part of the movie and why did the lead character tried to kill the boy at the end
