the Three Colours trilogy is GREAT...
Blue was about Liberty.. where a woman, widowed and also loses her daughter in a car crash, finds that her husband has had an affair and that the woman was pregnant.. where she has nothing left, the other woman has something of his... this leads her to learn how to be free of her past, her anger, her loss...
White was about Equality... where the woman who used a man for her purposes gets her retribution in that the man plots revenge.. but in a strange twist, they end up being really in love.. she's in gaol, and he's outside, both equally lost as they are separated from each other...
Red was about Fraternity... where a model ends up friends with a retired judge through a strange relationship where there's eavesdropping and they find something which they had to stop together...
together Blue, White and Red are the colours of the French Flag.. and each colour representing the reason for the French Flag
very recommended!
i would also recommend (if you can get it)
Savage Nights, about a bisexual man, HIV positive, and his strange relationships, and his trying to live his remaining life to the fullest... disturbing, yet compelling...
and
Like Water for Chocolate.. a strange story about a family told in the view of the youngest child in the family, of family struggles, politics, forbidden love and tragedy...
