The Skeleton Key

Set largely in the dark backwoods just outside of New Orleans, The Skeleton Key stars Hudson as Caroline, a live-in nurse hired to care for an elderly woman's (Rowlands) ailing husband (Hurt) in their home...a foreboding and decrepit mansion in the Louisiana delta. Intrigued by the enigmatic couple and their rambling house, Caroline beings to explore the old mansion. Armed with a skeleton key that unlocks every door, she discovers a hidden attic room that holds a deadly and terrifying secret.

After New Orleans hospice worker Caroline (Kate Hudson) answers a help wanted ad, she finds herself working as the live-in caretaker of Ben Devereaux (John Hurt), a stroke victim who has lost his ability to speak. Ben's wife, Violet (Gena Rowlands), presents Caroline with a skeleton key to open any door in the house--with the exception of one, which she claims she has never been able to open. But curiosity gets the best of her, and Caroline opens the door to find a wealth of materials representing the old house's history of hoodoo, an ancient form of folk magic. She soon discovers that the house harbors a dark secret--one that Violet knows more about than she first admits. -

Hell-oh Nurse! Kate Hudson was the draw for me actually, and it would be interesting to see if she could pull off carrying The Skeleton Key on her shoulders. I would say if you're Kate's fan, then this movie's for you, since she's in almost every scene as the protagonist, in various states of (un)dress.

Somehow I found this show quite enticing. Something like M Night Shyamalan's The Village... trying to scare the heck out of you initially when it turned out to be nothing more than humans are the cause of the horror flick...
Anyhow, the storyline is well placed and the twists and turns though not as good as M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense, but it's good enough to grip you to the end of your seat throughout the show. The ending was a bit too sad... -

for me, 3 1/2 star.
plot is so-so, a slight twist in the end to wrap it all up. -

It's not scary, but I just don't like the ending part. Could have been better if Kate Hudson would have whack the sh.it out of the ghosts... sad... sad ending... leaves the show with a possible The Skeleton Key 2

Its a stupid movie where at the end, the baddie swaps body with the lead star and lives happily ever after.
