It has always been a challenge to adapt Jin Yong's novels for a 2-hour movie.
Only one movie seemed to have done it rather well (even though the plot deviated much from the original novel) -- Hu Jinquan's starring Sam Hui and Cecilia Yip. Sequels not included.
