  Another brilliant true-life story about an underdog boxer by Ron Howard:
  
  
  
  The performances of Oscar-worthy actors Crowe, Zellweger, and Giamatti do not disappoint.
  
  However, after "Million Dollar Baby", would this Oscar-bait of a boxing movie win again the Best Picture honours in 2006?
  
  We shall see.

  It was actually quite good for a boxing movie, more engrossing than "Ali" but less so than "Raging Bull".
  
  One must be reminded that Crowe is not the larger-than-life Maximus here, but the real-life Great Depression boxing champion Jim Braddock.
  
  Glad to see Giamatti acting in more prominent good-guy roles after "American Splendour" and "Sideways" -- he always used to play sneaky villains in his older movies.

  this is a very nice and touching movie as well, if you dont enjoy movies that are very realistic or movies like oliver twist etc.. then this isnt a movie for you =D

  Yet another boxing movie on the heels of Ali and Million Dollar Baby you might add? Yes, and agreeing with Runyon, this movie, director Ron Hward's second collaboration with Russell Crowe (the first being A Bueatiful Mind), about the Depression-era boxer Jim Braddock packs a wallop like Ali and brings on some sniffles like Baby.

  To some, "Cinderella Man" may lack the punch. However, director Ron Howard had made it clear before he made the movie that he was not going to make a "Rocky". He wanted to re-tell the story as closely to how it had happened as possible, so some entertainment value may have been lost for the sake of historical accuracy.
  
  Or it could just be an American thing. Like "Field of Dreams", it's a great movie loved by many Americans but the novelty of old baseball heroes is lost on audiences outside the country.

  Somehow I dont really prefer watching these American style 'Autobiography' movies like Aviator, Ali, Ray... Too many and forgettable.
  
  All usually very long and can be dull at certain parts. But those Americans love these kinds of shows always give them oscars and academy awards.
  
  I do like A beautiful mind though, That was VERY good.

  I saw it only last week and I must say it's definitely a great show.
  
  It has all the ingredients to win an Oscar nomination.
