To some, "Cinderella Man" may lack the punch. However, director Ron Howard had made it clear before he made the movie that he was not going to make a "Rocky". He wanted to re-tell the story as closely to how it had happened as possible, so some entertainment value may have been lost for the sake of historical accuracy.
Or it could just be an American thing. Like "Field of Dreams", it's a great movie loved by many Americans but the novelty of old baseball heroes is lost on audiences outside the country.
