  Spielberg probably would make a better alien invasion movie than Emmerich. Definitely a movie to be watched on the big screen.

  This movie deserves to be watched on the big screen. Can't feel the excitement and suspense if you watched it on some bootleg DVD.

  Fanning did scream -- her role probably demanded that. Anyway, when you're used to horror movies, screaming doesn't really bother you anymore.

  After the EMP (Electro-magnetic pulse) shockwave by the lightning strikes, all electronic devices stopped working. However, when the tripod emerged from the ground, there was a guy using his video camera to tape the whole event.

  hopefully Spielberg can do something about it in the DVD, a extented version or something.

  I actually quite liked the ending. I also like the narration at the start and the end. Its very HG wells and imo, it way more intelligent than any other recent invasion movie i've watched. Another plus point of this movie would be some of the battle scenes; they were, imo, just beautiful to behold.
  
  The rest of the movie is a little...blah... It didn't do much for me. overall, watchable but by no means a great movie. 7.25/10 IMO.

  the ending - i read the novel eons ago, and so cant remember if it was the actual ending from the book - was logical and intelligent, unlike contemporary movies when you expect bloody and brutal showdowns.
  
  but i guess they should have dwelt more on it nevertheless. cos it gave an impression of a very abrupt ending - like all of the sudden the aliens started to crumble for no reason. in fact i was even given the impression that tom cruise's stun that killed one of the machines led to their entire downfall!
  
  and in the end, i think even if the ending is indeed true to the story, it was not a very "movie-friendly" ending.

  they planned the invasion for Millions of yrs.. and they never factor in germs?? how smart can those aliens be??? no wonder they havent contacted us yet.. maybe they still staying in they cave lah..
