this is akin to working longer for less
tell her to chg for a better job.
many many years ago, i was working part time earning miserly $4/hr. My boss likes my work, i asked him to increase by 50 cents, he hesitated. I told him I like the job very much but i can easily hop on to another job in the industry for $5. He agreed and raised my pay right away.
If your sis thinks the boss likes her work, then she's got to state her market value.
part timer and gonna go back to school eventually but wanna fight for higher pay?
i remember last time i took part time jobs to pass time and earn money while i was at it. not strive for higher pay.
if she wants higher pay, go to another place to work. negotiate for what fark?
Temp job... fight for what higher pay.
Even full timers wan threaten their boss with this higher pay thing also failed.

Yes... superior praised her for her enthusiasm shown in work... but they just refused to raise the hourly wage....
my sis thinking is tat she's fine without the job too (tat's y she quit)... just tat if they are willing to increase it she'll take up the offer lor.. lol
yeh good move :) it's a very mobile labour market where part timers are concerned. No worries about a new p/t job with higher rate soon.

no offense but dun u think u sound contradicting??... doing part timing to pass time is one thing... but if u are want to EARN MONEY, shouldnt u strive for higher pay?? if not u can spend ur time in volunteer organisation ma. haha.... it's not just abt the pay la... its abt the value tat ppl put to ur work... dun u think tat a better way to gauge how other values ur work is to look at the wage rate?
Junyang700,
u r wrong abt it... bet u haven worked b4.. lol.. one must adopt a strategic approach when demanding a pay rise.. i have seen ppl gettin pay rise of 30% when correct strategy is being employed... they are full timers btw..

i do agree with you.. but the thing is my sis is not particularly in love with her temp job la.. it's like she's going there to pass time and earn money lo..
i do agree tat having a passion in one's job is impt... but also cannot neglect pay and all this ma.. imagine if ur pay is nt enough to cover transport and makaning costs then cannot just feed on passion ma.. haha..
hI Toot , as what you mention here and all the rest of the replys one thing for sure yes u can demand what u feel right but on the other side dont have such behaviour in the long run cause its only will be a lot of hurdles in the future i am a relief taxi dirver and my day job i am doing sales only me local the rest all are import staff meaning PRC and ETC i did ask my boss why not get local staff , but he just sigh and say me you still ask me how many times, cause our local expectation are different but at the same time we have part time students who earn $6 and hour during our sales and over the weekend and pc shows so i think learning things more at this age give you experience and when your sister finish her education she will know what to look for in the future , so asking high pay is one thing and its all ok if the boss agree so otherwise just
cheers

its not contradicting
i wanna pass time, at the same time i get to earn money while i am at it, which is a bonus
if u dun work, i pass time slower, get no money. which is not difference to me.
just because u work doesn't mean u die die wanna strive for higher pay.
understood?
got free time + work = got some money = bonus during holidays
got free time - work = no money = no money lor
i'm not paying my house utility bills at that time, so what for strive for higher pay? u taking care of children ah? u got 4 mouths to feed? u got car loan?
u are just a student, waiting to go back to school, just using ur free time to earn some extra dough.

then quit and find another job lah
its temp what, not full time
why make things so complicated?
here's a simple breakdown:
its a temp job
not full time job
u wanna fight for higher pay for full time job, go ahead
u wanna fight for higher pay for temp job and u gonna go back to school in 2 months time? dun waste ur breath. really not happy, quit and find another one. the time u spend arguing, u might as well go interview other locations.
its about time u and ur sister understand what is happening in singapore now.
most people are not getting the pay they want no matter how highly they rate themselves.
the employer can just put a PRC fella in for half your price and u can carry on and quit.
so like i said, its a temp job, no need to think so much. dun like just go find another location to pass time and earn money.
if money is not issue, then have a good rest for 2 months and get herself mentally prepared to restart sch..........
acually if part time job, should have fun. money is good then it's a bonus. High chance it wun be so fun when you do full time work.
i seriously wun bother negotiating with a kid who is going back to school in 2 months.
as an employer, also wasting breath. i might as well put a sign up for someone more willing to do it at the previous rate.
unless the employer very nice, bother to chit chat about dollars and cents to the employee.
Chee by! Still schooling and asking for higher wage!
Hello! Don't insult the boss! He is earning a living!
Who in the hell does she think she is?
She is lucky that the boss was not horny! Otherwise, she would have already been raped and her pay increased!!!!!!
Thanks for all the constructive suggestions by everyone (except for the freak louis888)... I'll share it with my sister....
After reading through the posts.. I think i know what's the best way for my sis.. but ultimately she's the one deciding la...haha...
To looney888,
dunno what the hell is seriously wrong with you....
my guess is that you are facing lots of problems in real life.. pity you.. you must have been badly treated in jobs like an idiot by your boss and there's no way your boss will persuade you to stay in the job should you quit... i think the employer will be happier without somebody so negative like you in the company.
or are you simply jealous that my sis can continue her study while you don't even get a chance to go anywhere beyond a diploma? (saw some other posts by u..Loser)
Just admit that you are jealous.. Through your various posts and I can see that you are abnormal psychologically and you should visit a shrink.
relax la.....a lot of siao lang in this forum. no need to reply him at all really :)
school girls and boys should concentrate on school work. iff you think you get enough exposure and job experience just move on.
