Suppose 1 day you found out that your collegue who join the company at the same time as you, have the same qualification and experience as you and do the same job as you actually got a higher salary than you.
For instance, you are in cust service dept and your collegue who is a cust service officer too and both of you are diploma holders and have 3 years experience in cust service but he draws a higher salary than you.
What will you do? Search for a new job than resign?
same qualification meaning same course?

Your boss will scold you lor say salary confidential information how come you know your collegue salary?
ask HR lor..y ask boss

HR only listen to your boss..boss ask HR to sach you and you will get sack, ask HR to give you increment and you will get..
can try to ask for more pay, if u think u out perform ur fellow colleague.... all this can b done without revealing that u have any knowledge of ur colleague pay.
else, just leave if u are unhappy abt it if nothing was done after u try asking for more or be paid the same amount.
This is very common.
Not only that, it depends on timing of you joining the firm at which point in the economic cycle.
An example - a fresh grad graduates in 2004 when the economy is still just recovering from the SARS crisis and gets a job at 2K a month. She works for the company for 3 years and gets a promotion and pay increase to 2.5K in 2007 (25% increment). In 2007 the markets are booming. Another fresh grad joining the company in the same department gets a starting pay of 2.5K at a salary that is on par with the person who has worked in that department for 3 years.
See the disparity?
That is why HR departments will always tell u to not reveal your salary to other colleagues because they know the wide disparity of salaries among workers will force them to pay more if salaries are known openly in the company.
It's the same for higher ranking workers in similar jobs. Sometimes, lower ranking personel could be drawing a higher salary than higher ranking personel in the same department. Sometimes the HR will be nice and adjust the salary accordingly but if they can save the company money, they will.

what if both fresh graduate join in 2004 and one get 2.5k while the other get 2k?

It probably meant the guy who got higher asked for it.
Seriously, all this bull crap about adding value to the company, achieving a checklist of targets before you ask for a salary raise is a bunch of hogwash.
Every year, just ask the same question (whether u really did add value to the company or not) on getting a pay raise. If you don't get it, then either u accept it or look for another higher paying job.
Majority of people working in a company are likely average workers who do what they are supposed to do. Maybe there might be 1 out of 1000 workers who really adds true super value to the company but that is a rarity.
The decision to give u a pay increase is usually a spur of the moment thing when the HR checks their budget and general economic situation. (ie, can they afford it based on the money they have at hand to give out)
Even if u are a superstar in the department, due to the limited amount of budget allocated to every department, you will likely only get maybe slightly more than what another average colleague gets at the end of the year. Rationale is that if u get too much, it might cause resentment among other colleagues working with u. Again that is why HR departments always stress to you not to reveal your salary to anyone so that there is no comparing.
Being lucky and at the rght place at the right time is more important than general work performance in my opinion.
How much pay I give you how much worth of work loh.

NSF are the lowest paid people evev lower than foreigners and they do the most work
By the way, what happened to your Suffocate nick?
It got banned?
Well, it's up to the coy to decide who get higher salary though... that is why salary is confidential among colleagues as people like you get upset...

Than when you look for a new job what reasons did you give when they ask you why you resign from your ex company?
i just tell them my ex-company is winding up soon.

Won't they ask you what problems are your ex company facing that is causing them to wind up?
