Crap happens with any job. The only question is whether what you get out of the job outweighs what it takes out of you. In one of my old jobs as a social worker, I used to tell my boss, "Go ahead and fire me - you'd be doing me a favour", but I stayed on because, hell, it was fun. The day it stopped being fun, I handed in my resignation with immediate effect and was back in the corporate world within 24 hours with my pay tripled. Mind you, considering what social work paid, that wasn't much to write home to Mom about.
A few weeks ago a competitor offered me a job with more salary. I listened politely to what she had to say and then said that I was flattered, but no thanks. The extra dosh wouldn't justify the lack of challenge that came with the offered position. At the moment, I rarely deal with the same problem twice, so coming up with new solutions on a daily basis keeps things interesting, even though I occasionally have to pull a 20-hour day and deal with unpleasant clients.
haha.. not as suay as u.Originally posted by 798:r u as sucky as me?

Well, I don't know how it happened. I was at a management conference in March, and as usual I'm never the sort to keep my mouth shut. This lady happened to be one of my competitors' directors and said she liked what she saw, so she made a pitch.Originally posted by browniebaobao:Ged, thank you for sharing.
Seems that you are very wanted hor?
when i chose this job among the few others, it was bcos i looked at it at the long term.. more things to learn, more prospects it seems..
it seems that everyday im fighting with time.. even if i want to stay back a bit longer and complete more assignments, my body dun allow me too.. my eyes will get blurry and my mind will go blank after 7pm.
altho i dun like the job nature, but im used to it.. im also quite contented with the pay im getting, but im always asking myself 'is this wat i want to to do for the next few years? do i have the interest in this line? or should i go find a job that i will enjoy more?'
perhaps im the kind of person who needs motivation to work harder... not only for money, but also bcos of passion.
im not as lucky as u ba..Originally posted by Gedanken:Well, I don't know how it happened. I was at a management conference in March, and as usual I'm never the sort to keep my mouth shut. I hear what you're saying about having too much work, but that seems to be the unfortunate nature of working life these days. Mind you, i'm living in the land of the 38.5-hour work week, but on a good week I'm lucky to keep it down to 50. It's really easy to lose the forest for the trees when you've got a heavy workload, but even when I'm burrowing away and trying to beat the clock, I try and keep from going brain dead by finding new ways to do things. The good part about my job is that there's so many ways of data management and anlysis that I can always take a new path that could cut my workload and keep things interesting at the same time.
If you're hitting a dead and and you're not learnng anything new, maybe it's time to either change jobs or look for something else to do in your existing company. In my case, I was hired for my technical skills, but at every given opportunity I dabble in the business development side of things because I'm a real kaypo.
I don't kow how it works with Singaporean bosses, but maybe one thing you could do is form a development plan that you can present to your boss. There might be other aspects of the business that you want to get involved in, and if you show your boss a plan of how you intend to do so, you might get a shot at it.
Overall, if you're getting caught up in the daily grind and losing sight of the big picture, of course you're going to lose motivation. It's a tall order, but you'd be doing yourself a big favour by setting aside some time specifically to take stock of where you're at and what you need to do to get where you're going.
Well, yeah, the nature of my work is such that I do have some freedom to play around with processes and make them more efficient - in fact, I was hired because I work hard at being lazy.Originally posted by browniebaobao:im not as lucky as u ba..
abt my work.. im bound by regulations.. i cant do things the way i like.. there's always a 'practice' or 'regulation' to follow..
actually i wana learn more.. coz i feel that there are still a lot of things that i have not learned.. but the more i learn, the more work i have to do.. and people tend to take me for granted. There's no way i can tell them "hey, u are giving me too much work! I'm so stress up already, there's so many things, so many deadlines to adhere to, can't you do it yourself?" u understand?
Push me too hard I will snap.. i will tender if i can't take it anymore.
