depends on the natural of the work as well. as RaTtY8l mentioned above. some shifts nothing to do one. they just need u to be there for the sake of being there.

Disappearing act is permitted in shift work
Appearance is one of the job of "No shift" work whether u r useful or not?

In shift work, as long as u did yr job, yr boss will appreciate and respect u
In no shift work, no matter how much u do if it is not to yr boss liking, .....
many many many advantages if u r executive working shift -
I don't mind as long as it is 5 days week.
