I have worked with French bosses - they think they are better than locals, unless, perhaps if you can speak French. And they will always speak French to their counterparts in front of you even if you can't speak their language.
I have worked with Aussie boss - basically, lots of hot air, very little substance... and lots of "yeah, yeah, yeah"

No complaints. I've worked with British, Dutch, Italian, Australian, South African, Irish, German and American bosses and they've been pretty good except for the Yank, but he was on his way to a nervous breakdown by the time I came aboard anyway. The Dutch and Australians cut the crap and get to the point, which is the way I like working, the British, Germans and South Africans are considerate and the Italians and Irish have a great sense of humour. With the exception of the American, I've wound up all my roles with those bosses on good terms. I still keep in touch with most of them, and they're still happy to provide advice and help when I need it.
I find it a bit difficult to call a guy stingy when he's shelled out for lobster dinner and an iPod Shuffle for each staff member and their spouses, along with a case of Bollinger plus two other cases of decent wines in one evening.Originally posted by pervertboi:ang mo boss are stingy.... -

I've worked with Americans and Germans, not bosses, but as equals.
Basically, the Americans, especially the New Yorkers, are direct, and they refuse to dick around. However, they are very open to ideas and aren't afraid to back down if you have a better idea/technique. Lovely, because we can all get to work without much delay.
German mates...well, brash but some can be too brash and inflexible for my liking. Tolerated them, but I wouldn't have a few cold ones with them. -
