Be careful of what you say

in the concrete jungle, one must be careful of what u say to each other, especially your colleagues.
many will say the wrong thing at the wrong time without knowing.
take for instance your colleague next to u is thinking of quiting and is taking a half day leave to go for a job interview. he wants to keep this a secret but since u are his best pal, he decided to let you now.
since u are the only one who knows, u must be careful not to mention anything regarding the interview during everyday conversation.
take for examples u shouldn't say "Hey so what time are u going to XXX company later?" when other colleagues are around. people will get suspicious.

Yeah, the walls have ears. This something I learned about in the hard way.
If need be, sensitive matters are best discussed while having lunch far far away from the company premises -
If I'm going half day for interview, I won't even let a single soul in the office know, other than myself.

if u are going to complain with fellow colleagues about how so and so is screwed up and incompetent, better not to do it at the office toilet or pantry or any where else within the office premises. cos u will never know who will hear it.
i can safely tell u that in most cases when u starts talking anout someone, that someone will suddenly appear out of nowhere. -
Also include issues such as pay, cancellation of ot/off/leave, thinking of quitting, etc

if let say your colleague who join later than u is doing the same job scope as u but is getting a higher salary, this will bring about jealousy.
or if it's the opposite, example u are the one getting the higher salary than the rest, and when others ask u for your salary, just lower down the figure.
cos remember this golden rule. it is better for others to think u are underpaid than give others the impression u are overpaid. -
i've always had a "&*$^ it!" attitude and it's gotten me nowhere in the ladder but i've been able to sleep well at night..
so, your choice
i choose to sleep well at night

other than being careful of what u say in office, one must also be careful of what one says to the customers.
never ever promise customers anything unless u are 100% sure it can be done. if not, the customer will always say, "XXX said it can be done, i don't care!"
customers don't care whether u are new or don't know anything. once u promise them something, even if u found out later that in actual fate it cannot be done, they don't care. they will take advantage of this and eat u so be careful. -

adding on, some of u might have speaker phones at your work place right? do remember to never ever talk on the phone using speaker mode without the other party knowing. cos the other party might suddenly say something which u don't want the other around u to hear.
same goes for u talking on the phone. be careful of what u say cos u never know whether the bugger on the other end is putting u on speaker mode. -

Really don't care .... there are people whom when encounter with problems will solve it rationally with you while many others just raise their voice or threaten you.
My policy is very clear and simple in situation when i feel the threat i will respond in the same way but there are people who truely work things out in a rational way. Those are whom i respect and in my working life so far i have only encounter a few of the latter.
The speaker phone thing is a little too far. Isn't there any other way to work things out other than having to rely on recorded message? Like you will expect him to talk good about you behind your back? Forget the free buffet lunch i will rather eat out and 'sheet' right after -

speaker phone means u are taking on the phone (on speaker mode) handfree without the handset.
i find that some people like to talk on the phone this way. in speaker mode, everyone around u can hear what the other party is talking. if for example if he were accidentally say out "is that stupid fat boss around?" or something like that, everyone will hear it.
therefore to save the embarrassment, talk on the phone with handset, not speaker. -
Actually on speaker phone good, the other party can talk while i can still work. If the other party want to talk bad about other guy, not my problem. Like i wrote before don't expect others to talk good about you behind your back, and if another guy don't talk bad about anothyer guy in front of some guy it does not mean that he won't talk abd about another guy in front of other guys.
