  tension is like the higher the tension, the more power u will need to hit the shuttlecock while lower tension do not required more strength to hit it. but higher tension will giv better control than lower tension. hehe tats wat the badminton webby says

  If the string is too tight and you hit too hard, it will snap into two. If it's not tight enough, a lot of energy is spent hitting the shuttlecock.

  just to add in that there are many types of strings in the market.
  have to explore stringing many type of strings then u know which one suit u the best.
  Also note that not all rackets can withstand high tension for those string with titanium.
  lower the tension, the loosen the string on the racket.

  I prefer bg66. Better repulsion. Shiok. I do string for people using bg65 though.
