Longhai, China -- The "immortal" body of a woman who passed away in 1978 at a temple in Longhai city, Fujian Province is being gilded as a Buddha after it was discovered undecayed in a large jar by workers doing repairs on November 30. The well-preserved woman was identified at Zhou Gu who had been a laywoman at Linqianyan Temple, according to Liao Deyan, a man who sculpts Buddhas at the temple. "There was no trace of decay on her body or clothing. No odor, either," he said. "There was no lime or charcoal in the jar. It's a miracle the body was preserved so well."
According to Chen Yiquan, deputy secretary general of the Xiangcheng district Buddhism committee, a vegetarian diet is a key factor in leaving an immortal body.
"Her hands and feet could still be moved, and from her expression, it must have been quite peaceful when she passed away," said Liao, as he wrapped her body in gauze to make her into a "golden statue."
I was told by the tour guide that there are many cases of monks and nuns whose bodies are undecayed in China and other places in the world. I had been to 山(the place of worship for Earthstore Buddha) and I understand that place has the most undecay bodies of monks and nuns. Not only are the bodies undecay, the bodies have natural fragrance.
Many scientists had been to 山to study the undecay bodies because according to the scientists, the climate at 山makes it difficult for the bodies to remain undecay. It seems that they could not find the answer. Their only explanation it could be due to the monks and nuns vegetarian diets.
here's another story of an undecayed body found in China
=> The Lady Dai
not long after, a few more were found which were also undecayed...
the Christian world also have a few who were put as "incorruptables"
i'm betting there are more out there which we have not discovered yet
They should do a cremation before preserving it into a "golden statue". The bodies of Chan Patriarch Huineng and many other venerables were preserved into "golden statue" because there bodies still intact after cremation.

You mean after cremation (after burning), Ven. Master Huineng's body is still intact. If yes, that is really amazing!
Rotting meat decays faster?
Probably if you eat meat before you die, the meat inside your body rots faster? If you eat veggies, veggies dun corrode as fast?
means they don't need to wrape up the body like those mummies in egypt's pyramid?
don't need to use the modern freezing method?
the body also never rot..so amazing

Well, it is called a ‘Whole Body Sarira’. I read somewhere that during the Japanese Occupation of China, some Japanese try to hack off Master Hui Neng head to be brought back to Japan, but it did seems that they did not succeed in doing so. Master Chi Hang of Taiwan is said to be another case of a ‘Whole Body Sarira’ after cremation. Enlightened Beings they certainly are.
My house gt hui neng pic. My relatives took it during a trip to China.
I saw a docummentary on cable TV gt japanese zen master Kong Hai or something also like this.

Master Hui Neng, the sixth and last Patriarch of Ch’an Buddhism in China and author of the Platform Sutra is certainly highly regarded by all Buddhists. The Platform Sutra, is the only Mahayanist Sutra that is considered of purely Chinese origin.
immortal and passed away
what kind of oxymoron is that?

Hopefully, you did notice the inverted commas on the word 'Immortal' and also have heard of the expression 'figure of speech'.
