Sorry Starletz, I am not familiar with Gender Identity Disorder in Children. I am more familiar with Autism.Originally posted by Starletz:Hi folks. I sort of need help for an assignment that I am working on. I'm working on the topic of gender identity disorder in children 0-8 years old. I need to have an assignment written on ONE assessment method that they use to diagnose children. Does anyone have any idea or references that can help me? In my uni library I can't seem to get specific stuff.
Thanx.
No I am not. I'm an Early childhood education studentOriginally posted by DeadPoet:By the way are you a Psychology student too?
Gee... thanx. Hmm I've yet to start writing my paper. The assignment's due on Monday now which is GOOD for me. I'm currently looking into the Frey & Slaby interview test. Sort of having an understanding of gender constancy and it's relation to GID. But I'm still quite lost. Without an idea, it's so hard to begin writing. Prob will go crazy at the end....Originally posted by Gedanken:Whoa - hold the bus!
All of Ditzy's referred articles are non-age-specific. IIRC, the DSM-IV diagnoses are only reliable for clients aged 18 and over, and this also applies to the ICD.
Also, with DSM-IV, you need to make a point to ensure that you perform proper differential diagnoses - these are the items that state something like "the condition is NOT due to X....".
This might be a more appropriate article for the described age group. Let me know if you need any help translating the psychobabble.
