Ex-Offenders as Colleagues

He may have committed a crime but he is fully capable of changing for the better.
Ex-offenders too can get back on their feet and become productive members of society. Community support is important to cheer them on their road to recovery.
So be part of the Yellow Ribbon Project - show them your support to unlock the second "prison". Only you can.
But then ..... can u really accept ex-offenders as your colleagues?

i got frens who are ex-convicts, ex-drug addicts......
they are relli no diff from anyone else w/o the black mark.......

it all depends on what was the offence...
and will definitely be wary of them at first.... but if they really shows that they are simply harmless, i dun see why not... -

but a lot of govenment job requires job applicants to state whether they have commited any offence before in a declaration form....

Got one listener call in to Class 95 and say that once she employed an ex convict as an assistant. She needed to go into a sensitive government building, she was allowed in but her assistant was not on the grounds that he was an ex convict.
She said, if the government is serious about this project, they are the ones who should take the lead.
Also, I agree that having "have you committed any crime" or similar statements in employment forms is discriminatory. If you put "YES" to that question, you might not even get the interview no matter how qualified you are.
In the end, it must be balanced up. You should be cautious towards people not just because he is an ex convict, anyone could harm you, not just ex convicts. But at the same time, we should be sincere in our relationship with people. If the law has deemed the person is free to go, then we should be sincere and be free to work and be friends with that person.
