Like to share this with you which i read on Sunday...
"Just this past week, the Olympic games in Athens came to an end. And we offer congratulations to all the athletes who made the games an enjoyable and exciting thing to watch.
As i was thinking about the Olympic game, i was captivated by an article entitled "LAst Race of the Olympics Tells the Greatest Stories" -- printed in the Weekend Today (August 28-29, 2004).
In that article, the story is told of marathon runner John Akhwari of Tanzania. He did not win a gold medal or set a world record. In fact, he came in dead last, finishing one hour behind the gold medal winner, Mamo Eolde of Ethiopia.
It was during the 1968 Olympic Games which were held in Mexico City. At the beginning of the marathon race, Mr, Akhwari fell severely injured his knee. Yet, in spite of the terrible pain that came with each stride, he refused to give up. Akhwari hobbled into the stadium -- bloodied but unbowed.
The thing that caused Mr. Akhwari's name to be remembered in the annals of sports history -- obviously -- is not his success. Rather, it is the courageous attitude of his heart. You see, when the reporters asked him why he had continued to run the race when he was in such obvious pain, Mr. Akhwari answered, "My country did not send me 5000 miles to start the race, they sent me 5000 miles to finish the race."
In life, how many times have we given up just because we feel the pain. Have we ever ask ourselves the same question?
Did you finish every race you started?
Cheers
haha this is one HUGE advertisement in TIME magazine a couple of years back....
determination is part and parcel of life..yet we give up ever so often..are we satisfying ourselves?are we living life to the fullest?or have we compromised our personal standards?
