Dear Icy, you don't have to respond to his chats you know? Afterall, there is no obligation for you to do that.
Personally, I hate people to play mind games like that on the phone and later found out to be someone I cannot be bothered with (I am quite good at recongising friend's voice that I have spoken with). If I was you, my first priority would be to force him to cough out the person who gave him your number. If that is not possible - the conversation will end.
Forget about picking up his call and use reasons to cover up your lack of interest - DON'T pick them up. Use reasons only when you accidentally picked his calls - change your tone and drama your lack of interest to chat. Finally, end conversation by one minute.
