Disastrous Day

Today was the day I was supposed to attend an interview fora Computer Assistant position. At first i think nothing of it because I thought the interview shouldn't be too hard, after all, all my past interviews weren't that difficult. So I went to it, feeling confident that I might get that job because from the e-mails that we have exchanged, the person who is supposed to be employing me seemed eager to hire someone for that job.
At first it went alright. He asked me some questions about when I would be available for work, asked me about some of my past experiences and told me some of the job descriptions. Just when I thought it was almost over, another two guys walked into the room with papers in their hand. One of them was carrying this huge box.
The guy who has been interviewing me looked at me and said,"Now let's begin our interview."
I was shocked. I thought it has almost come to an end! He started taking out gadgets from inside of the box and most of them are things I have never seen before. He fished out a grey box-like thing that look to me almost like an external hard drive that I had once used. He asked me what the thing was. I told him it might be an external hard drive, but I was not sure since it was empty except for a few plugholes. He didn't answer me. Then he proceeded to ask me what went into the holes in the box. I was stunned for a long time. I had 3 people staring at me, waiting for an answer. At that moment, I really felt like digging a hole in the floor and disappearing into it.
After that he showed me another box. This one is very heavy and it is made of metal. He told me it was almost the same as the first one. I really had no idea what it was. So I told him that. By that time I had already lost all hope that I would ever get that job. After that he showed me a phone and asked me the frequency of the phone. Turned out that it was written really, really small on the back of the phone but I managed to detect that. I felt so relieved when he told me the interview was over. And yea, the first gadget he showed me was an external hard drive. He didn't tell me just to freak me out *sigh*
I felt stupid after that interview. I wish I had not gone for it. I mean, I am already a junior in Computer Science and there are still so much things I do not know. How would I make it out there in 2 years time? I would be unemployed because no employer would want to hire someone who has no idea what a TCIP was. By the way, that was another question he asked me which I blanked out.
I felt like Becky in Confessions of a Shopaholic, when she went for an interview and was forced to speak Finnish when she didn't know how to. God, I felt dumb. And extremely worried about my future. Anyone knows of any hardware book that is good so that I can read and gain knowledge on this? *sigh*

maybe you can find some computer hardware magazines from the library to read.

oh dear... thats horrid. but well, its over. don't feel too bad ok? u got it mostly correct, and i'm sure other applicants went thru similiar things...

Why are you applying for such a technical position? From your description of the interview...it looks like you were applying for a technician's job. You have a computer science background? You should try for a programming position instead. -
