Actress Zhang Ziyi is allegedly under investigation by the Chinese government for being paid to have sex with disgraced former top government official, Bo Xilai.
She is reportedly barred from leaving the country.
Hong Kong's Apple daily and other Chinese media reported that the pair was first introduced by Bo's associate, Xu Ming, 41, who is the founder and chairman of Dalian Shide Group.
Sources say Xu confessed to paying Zhang 6 million yuan (S$1.2 million) in 2007, to have sex with her for the first time.
He later negotiated a deal for Bo to have sex with Zhang, for 10 million yuan (S$2 million).
Reports say the 33-year-old actress slept with Bo at least 10 times between 2007 and 2011 in Beijing.
The Chinese media also estimated that Zhang's sexual transactions with various rich and powerful figures have netted her 700 million yuan over the last 10 years.
This includes 180 million yuan in cash from Xu.
Her wealth from prostituting herself was not taxed, due to intervention from Xu and other government officials.
Xu reportedly pimped the Chinese actress out to two other high-level officials as well.
Media news outlets speculate that investigations into these allegations could explain why Zhang was absent from the recently concluded Cannes film festival.
Her film, Dangerous Liaisons, premiered at the festival, which her co-star, Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, attended.
Zhang claimed she was busy shooting the film, "The Grandmasters", and was unable to attend the festival.
According to Hong Kong and Taiwanese media reports, the actress has remained uncontactable for comment on the allegations.
Zhang was previously embroiled in other scandals.
In 2010, she was accused of exaggerating the funds raised for the Sichuan earthquake. Instead of the US$1million (S$1.34million) announced in 2008, the star only managed to raise US$400,000.
In 2009, Zhang was accused of cheating a married businessman of S$41.2 million, with whom she was alleged to be sexually involved with, while still engaged to Israeli billionaire Vivi Nevo.
Nevo and Zhang reportedly split up in 2010.

she still a PRC? Thought with her wealth and everything, she would have gotten herself a PR or citizenship somewhere else, maybe USA, a European country or what. Singapore govt will be more than happy to accept her.
Now she's in trouble cuz she's still in China and holds their citizenship. So have to pay tax lor. If she takes up Sg citizenship, then she pays tax to our govt and our govt will have another pay adjustment lor.

Easier access to her rich PRC government clienteles in China.
In China, if you have the right connections and money you can get away with most things.
You have to pay taxes for your income in almost all the countries in the world, unless you in tax haven (but then tax haven also have to pay taxes, but just some taxes excluded).
All Zhang Ziyi scenes got sio gan one......so reel life is pretty much real life.
Zhang Ziyi denies paid sex scandal
Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi' s publicist released a statement on Tuesday,to dismiss allegations that she had been paid to have sex with a disgraced politician.
"We read this outrageous report in the Hong Kong's Apple Daily. It sent stone-cold chills down our spines and has left us with a feeling of deep sadness," Zhang's team said in an online statement.
"During the last month, Zhang Ziyi has been busy working day and night on the set of 'The Grandmasters.' Why should this devoted and responsible actress have to suffer this kind of slander and defamation?" the team asked.
Zhang is reportedly under investigation by the Chinese government and has been barred from leaving the country.
Hong Kong's Apple Daily, as well as several other Chinese mainland and Taiwanese media publications, reported on May 29 that a wealthy associate of the former Chinese official has confessed he first paid Zhang 6 million yuan (US$944,244) in 2007, to have sex with her.
Reports said he later negotiated deals for the official to have sex with Zhang in Beijing at least 10 times between 2007 and 2011. The reports further claimed that Zhang's "sexual transactions" with various rich and powerful figures have made her the tidy sum of 700 million yuan (US$110 million) over the past decade.
Several media outlets are speculating that the investigations into these allegations could explain why Zhang was absent from the recent Cannes film festival. Zhang's new film, "Dangerous Liaisons," premiered at the 2012 Cannes film festival. Her co-star, Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, was in attendance.
"Friends have advised us to release a short statement and not take this seriously," Zhang's team continued, "The more you argue, the more you will stir up. It would be better to step aside until people lose interest and the lies disappear. The innocent will always be innocent. "
"But this time we don't want to be silent. If we leave these lies to spread, what is completely untrue will be at risk of becoming a half-truth," the statement read, "This time, we are telling those rumor-makers that we will respond. We will prove our side of the story; we'll seek legal justice; we'll find you in the darkest corner and go after you."
"We will seek justice for Zhang Ziyi by taking legal action against Apple Daily and against any other media publishing these false reports. "
Hong Kong law firm Hadlanes has sent a letter to Apple Daily, stating the following: "Your allegations concerning our client are completely untrue and constitute a grave libel upon her. In consequence of the publication of these statements, our client's reputation has been seriously damaged and she has suffered considerable distress and embarrassment."
Hadlanes asked for a complete retraction and an open apology by May 30, 2012 and has reserved the rights to proceed with legal actions and claim damages.
Zhang's team also thanked supporters and said no matter what libel may occur, Zhang Ziyi never forgets that she is a professional. "We just want to help her get rid of this disturbance and seek justice. Then she will be able to shoot her films in peace and quiet and present you, her fans, with more and better films in return."

If the rumours are true, Zhang Ziyi may be suffering from some sort of psychological illness where she cannot distinguish between the fictional roles she plays in her films from real life, which is why she prostituted herself to these men.
Zhang Ziyi plays the role of a geisha in "Memoirs of a Geisha", the plot is similar to the current sex rumors about her:
The film, set in Japan during the Showa Era, tells the story of Chiyo Sakamoto (portrayed by Suzuka Ohgo as a child and by Zhang Ziyi as an adult), a poor, young Japanese girl who has been sold along with her older sister Satsu into a life of servitude by her parents when she is nine years old. Chiyo is taken in by the proprietress of a geisha house, Mother (Kaori Momoi), but Satsu is rejected and is sold to another house in the "pleasure district" of the Hanamachi...
... After the party Mameha hears what happened and believes that the Baron took Sayuri's virginity, and claims that Sayuri's bids may not come through if she is found to be "worthless." Sayuri cries and tells Mameha that nothing happened and she is not worthless. That night the bid is finally placed by an elderly doctor known as Doctor Crab, for 15,000 yen—the highest mizuage bid in history...

Truth is stranger than fiction.
Another famous case is Yammie Lam Kit Ying:
Yammie Lam Kit Ying is a former Hong Kong TVB actress, most notable for her excellent performance in The Greed of Man and Looking Back In Anger.
Yammie Lam first joined TVB in 1983, and graduated from the TVB actor training class a few months later along with fellow actress Margie Tsang Wah-Sin. Yammie did a number of movies as well as TVB serials, soon becoming well known as one of the TVB's 5 Dragon Girls.
Yammie has a history of mental problems that reportedly started after The Greed of Man where she played a major female character who became insane after a series of family tragedies and died by accident in the end.
It was rumoured that she was unable to "get out" of her character. There have been quite a number of conjectures upon the origin of her mental problems, but none is ever confirmed by herself.
In 1995 and 1996, Yammie's parents died in succession. It was said she broke up with her boyfriend afterwards. In 1998, she got into a car accident. She was admitted into a mental institution in 1999. Her stage career was completely shattered by then despite she showed up later in one or two TV serials or movies.
In 2008, Yammie was found wandering in the street smoking heavily and in her nightgown.[1] Police later arrived after responding to a concerned pedestrian's call and sent her to Sheung Shui station.[1]
Adjudicated bankrupt in 2006, Yammie is currently living on state welfare of HK$3,700 monthly.

I think Zhang Ziyi may be suffering from same mental illness as Lam Kit Ying, both have trouble getting out of the roles they played in their acting careers.
