Famous Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai (æ¢æœ伟) will be acting as PAP supreme leader Lee Kuan Yew in a Singapore film ‘1965′, according to a report by Malaysian paper Kwang Hwa Daily.
The film is produced by Singapore’s Jia Le media company and is jointly directed by Singapore director Li Tian Ren and Hong Kong director Chen Ke Xin. Beside Leung, other internationally acclaimed film stars include Maggie Cheung (å¼ æ›¼çŽ‰) and Julianna Moore.
It will reportedly cost about US$5 million dollars and production will begin in the fourth quarter of this year. The scenes will be shot in both Singapore and Malaysia and will be released in time for next year’s National Day.
With Lee nearing his twilight years, the repressive PAP regime has been trying ways and means to glorify his 54 years of dictatorial rule over Singapore much akin to the films made by communist China about Mao Zedong after his demise.
While it is not revealed if the regime has anything to do with the film production, the historical research team behind the film is likely to come from Singapore which will surely portray Lee as a ‘hero’ in attaining Singapore’s ‘independence’ in 1965.
Despite the massive propaganda campaign propagated and perpetuated by the PAP regime over the years in Singapore’s history textbooks to brainwash generations of Singaporeans into blindly believing that Lee is the ‘founding father’ of Singapore, the internet has helped provide the less known truth about the events leading to Singapore’s expulsion from Malaysia in 1965 including the use of the Internal Security Act to arrest and detain hundreds of Lee’s political opponents.
It will be some time before Singapore history is re-written again with newly declassified materials from the British archives which will reveal the ‘other side’ of Lee Kuan Yew.
Don't know this is true or false. Of all politicians why choose to play him.

True, Tony is too charming, cool and good looking for the role. Donald Cheng would be closer to how the lky looks.
Anyway, LKY reaping attractive profits, more money, laughing himself to the bank. Scarly, too happy until get heart attack and then conk out. hahahahha.,

the oni director who can use tony leung and maggie cheung effectively is wong kar wai
It's definitely a self glorification show if it's meant to be shown before the next national day. Should talk about how this fella worked for the japs as a translator during WWII and how he killed dialects.
In fact, in malaysian history, LKY is known as a cunning politician who schemed his way to independence by riding on the coattails of Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Don't think he will be portrayed negatively, they won't want the risk of getting sued.
LKY is sueing King.
