It was a "catfight" gone wrong.
MediaCorp princess Jeanette Aw uploaded a photo of her on-set injury on her Twitter page yesterday. The actress was in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur filming her upcoming drama Destiny in her Hands when the accident occurred.
Destiny in her Hands, a drama which spans from the 60s to modern times, portrays Jeanette as a woman living a hard life, going through difficult times like elopement, pregnancy and abortion.
Over a phone interview with xinmsn last evening, Jeanette, who's filming in Malaysia, recounted, "We were filming a scene where I had to replace someone in the opera troupe as the person (Jeanette's Malaysian co-star) was late. When she returned and found out, we got into a catfight. We were pulling each other's shirts when her nails accidentally scratched me."
Jeanette added that no foul play was involved, saying that the tussle was all part of the script.
However, an open wound developed and Jeanette's cheek began to swell immediately. Upon seeing Jeanette's injury, her co-star apologised tearfully as she felt bad about the mishap.
"There's nothing I can do. [The accident] had already happened," Jeanette sighed.
Jeanette's friend, who is a doctor, phoned her immediately and taught her some first-aid treatment upon seeing the photo that she posted. Luckily for Jeanette, she had her own first-aid kit with her, and quickly washed the wound and applied antiseptic.
Her doctor friend also instructed her to avoid applying any makeup. "But it's impossible as I still have to film!" Jeanette exclaimed.
During initial filming, Jeanette wore minimal makeup for her role but now the actress has to pile on more makeup to conceal the swell. Filming was also compromised as the crew was cautious with filming the left side of her face.
Jeanette told xinmsn this is the first time she's had an injury on her face. When asked if she was afraid the wound would leave a scar, an uncertain Jeanette answered worriedly, "I don't think so? I hope not. I hope not."
Nonetheless, the actress is "trying to stay positive" and added that she is prepared to go for laser treatment if need be.
According to Jeanette's manager this morning, the actress has yet to see a doctor in Malaysia due to a late wrap in filming yesterday, but will do so when she returns to Singapore this afternoon.
Destiny in her Hands is scheduled to air next year.
