How to encourage poetry among the youth

As above, IMHO, u shuld see the stuff they listen to, all that rap. If not for the music, i'd almost consider wad they're listening to poetry. They have the interest, jus the wrong impression.

wads wrong with rap? it's just another form of music. it's alright if they prefer rap/r&b/pop to poetry. interest cannot be forced to form. the gift to write is either inborn or nutured through constant writing and interest. instead of encouraging poetry, why not create more awareness so that people are able to appreciate poetry instead? and i do think this is what you mean.
and erm, no offence, but appropriately placed punctuations will make your post easier to read. -
Poetry is words made up to show a certain idea of feeling inside each individual.It is a broadcast of how this person sees the world around him.How his words and feelings are composed also tells us how he feels and his interactions with the surroundings

How to encourage poetry among the youth?
Hmm... Awareness + Encouragement and hopefully develop the passion to write.
Most importantly, they must be willing to take the first step, write the first word. That is what DPS (S) is for.
Once you are more confidence, share your poems with poets from other forums. Be ready to take harsh criticism from some of the mods there. But most of them do offer very good advices.

Poetry cannot be forced upon anyone by anyone..... They should write poetry only because they want to, not because they are forced to.

whats wrong with rap? I feel that rap is a form of poetry. I listen to rap and I sometimes write some crappy poems anyhows. dun discriminate la. Really? I love the physical sciences myself.....
But one thing for sure, till now I still have a strong dislike for Chemistry and Physics.
Anyway, about rap.... Although I admit it's not exactly my cup of tea, it is in a way, a subset of poetry. I've always seen songwriting as a special form of poetry. That includes rapping. Songwriting, however, is much more difficult for you've got to make string the words into a coherent tune.
True, you've got to harmonize the words in any form of poetry, but it's much tougher with songwriting.
