IÂ’ve not written any poems for the past 12 years. This is the first one after such a long period. This poem is specially written for my colleague, hope she likes it. It is at first meant to be a folksong, but I later change my mind.
Your Highness, O Your HighnessYour Highness, O Your Highness,
You are as lovely as a pearl.
So elegant, delicate and pure,
A true blessing to us all.
Your Highness, O Your Highness,
But now why do you look so sad?
With ash-like lips and lifeless eyes,
Your silent is driving us mad.
Since you want to know the truth,
I will tell you now, my trusting fool.
For I may be a Queen so mighty and high,
But loneliness is one thing I canÂ’t disguise.
I longed for someone to hold my hand,
To gently hug me when I am feeling down.
Watching sunset at the golden beach,
Ridding horses on the palace ground.
Your Highness, O Your Highness,
I know I am just your fool.
But what kind of qualities must this man possess,
To have the honour, to be with you?
Well, he must be handsome, tall and dark.
With a mystical smile that melts my heart.
He must be dashing, brave and full of charms.
A knight in shining armour, shielding me from harms.
He must be humorous, gentle and wise.
And love me forever, till the day I die.
Your Highness, O Your Highness,
Pray let me speak my mind.
Such a man is truly rare,
And he may be hard to find.
But that is not all I am looking for,
There are many more on my list.
If I cannot find such a man,
Then no man shall be my King!
Your Highness if I may speak again,
Time will not wait for mortal being.
As long as he loves you and loves you true,
Such man will fit to be our King!
Say no more, O fool of mine,
You know not the woman ways.
If I cannot find such a man,
I will rather put my love away.
So the Queen is still waiting,
For her ideal King to be.
But Time will not wait for mortal being,
Nor Queen nor you nor me.
So guys, any comments???
P.S. The character of a fool is very common in the Royal Court. For example in William ShakespeareÂ’s King Lear, there is also a fool.
