I actually like this a lot. It's different from what I usually write, and I like the vision it gives me. A ghostly figure, gliding across the street like a serpent, searching for its prey. Tell me how you guys think?

The ghost struck someone with a "melancholic cry". Read that verse again. =]
Purpose and meaning? It is the personification of one's memories and past, and it is something metaphoric, to signify someone reminiscing the past. -
