MPC Reading Session @BooksActually

Hello guys,
I am planning to organize a reading session @BooksActually in August 2007. This time it is not going to be a combine reading session but only members from sgforums. Since this is the first round, I will try to be flexible – you are free to decide your reading materials, for example a paragraph from your favourite book, your favourite poems, an interesting articles you are dying to share, your love letters (your parents' love letters also can) or even your company’s meeting minutes if you think it is interesting enough to hold our attentions. (THAT will be a real challenge)
IÂ’ve not decided on the date yet but it is going to be a Saturday. Thus it is either 18 August or 25 August, 2pm. Due to space constraints, ideally we should have no more than 15 participants per session. So please let me know early if you are interested to participate. By the way, you will be sitting on the floor. Do make yourself comfortable. Oh all participants MUST read something.
As long as we have 7 - 8 participants I will go ahead with the reading session.
Kenny and Karen has kindly let us use the place for free so do check out their excellent collection of books and other hard-to-find items when you are there.
So who is coming for the reading session?

are we supposed to just bring ANY reading material AND read it???
never did tis b4... perhaps u can give us an idea wat kinda materials is more suitable? how long? etc...
*p.s. if tat day i lost my voice can i nominate ppl to read for me?

The last time I went, those who read just read one or two of their poems. You can read poems, paragraphs from a favorite book (to be considerate, maybe just avoid end book spoilers), or just any bits of stuff you like. I think that time, Kenny said that if people just want to read their favorite words is also ok. Don't have to be very long. I think it's anywhere between 1-5 minutes.
It's more fun all around if everyone who goes just participate. Don't worry about your voice, or what you are going to read, no one is going there to judge you.
You don't have to have a loud voice, just read in your normal talking voice, because the place is not very busy, so there's no need to shout.

How fun! I should be able to make it on both dates!!! Incidentally, why at BooksActually? I'm thinking the space is too big it might be difficult to hear the person reading if they're not loud enuf, plus the distractions...

Can read my Harry Potter & Deathly Hallows or not? Since i paid 47 bucks for it, i think i should share it around...heheh...

I thought it was fine the last time. It definitely has the ambiance. Not the most convenient location (10-15 minutes walk from Tanjong Pagar) I'll admit, but they were nice enough to let us have the place (credit goes to DP), so I hope we don't have to go hunt for another place.
Anyway, if you or anyone have a better place in mind, please feel free to organize. That is always open to the floor. -

Not everyone can understand other languages, so english is universal imho. Personally, I don't mind it and can enjoy it even if it's in a lanuage I don't understand. -

i thinking of mandarin lah.... kinda like short story but must time see how long it is. but i'll prob look for something english also lah

It's located in a row of restored chinese shophouses, on the second floor. The locations is near the Thian Hock Keng Temple and Hokkien Huay Kuan clan association. -

I think Don's Pie may be better as they have nice comfy couches (convenient for sleeping in case the reading gets too boring!!!....kidding! kidding!) and most impt-ly : PIES! Delicious pies!!! Nothing better for me than listening to someone reading and pigging out at same time. However, if everyone is ok with BA, dont bother changing the venue. -
since DP got the plc for us le, tis time go BA ... next one then go simi pie?
