2nd MPC Poetry Writing Contest

Dear friends and fellow aspiring poets,
I wish to express my gratitude to all of you for supporting and believing in MPC. During the time when I was unemployed, for more than a year, I spent most of my time at home to avoid bumping into neighbours, friends, and ex-colleagues, etc. Those were lonely times.
Luckily, I have friends in sgforums. To a certain degree, sgforums is my connection to the rest of the world. I know I sound pathetic, but the truth is without sgforums, MPC and support from my family members and wife, it would be extremely difficult for me to stay positive and carry on fighting. For that I am grateful, thank you.
Okay, letÂ’s get back to the contest.
Rules for the Contest
1) You must be the original author of your submissions.
2) No published poems allowed.
3) Maximum TWO submissions per participant.
4) Submissions are strictly via pm only. After the deadline I will post all submissions in a thread without the name of the authors. ParticipantsÂ’ identities will only be revealed after the results are out.
5) All submissions must be in latest by 31st July 2007, Tuesday.
6) Non-sgforums members are most welcome to participate. #
7) The theme is “Social Issues," however, participants can also choose to write about something else.
Open Category & JudgesÂ’ Choice Category
In the Open Category members of the public, i.e. you will get to vote for your favourite poem. The poem with the most votes will be the winner for this category. A different thread will be created on a later for voting purpose.
In the JudgesÂ’ Choice Category members from the judging panel will select a winning poem. The panel will consist of three local/overseas poets. The names of the three judges will be announced on a later date.
It is highly possible that the same poem is selected for both categories i.e. two prizes will be awarded to the same winner.
I wish to clarify that if your poem is not selected in the JudgesÂ’ Choice Category, it does not mean your poem is not good enough. The judges have the right to select, in their opinions, the best poem among the submissions.
# For non-sgforums members, you can send your submissions via email. My email address can be found at my blog. Due to security reasons, attachment will not be entertained.

Been a while since I last wrote a poem of sorts... here I go!

It's always been there; the menacing leers from those in bloodstained white,
It's always been there; those rusty chains around my ankles,
It's always been there; the remains of the last resident in the cubicle;
It's always been there; the howling cries echoing through the chamber.
I've been here; I used to reside here,
I've been here; the place where my life was ripped apart,
I've been here; no wonder it felt so nostalgic,
However; it's as if I've been there, but not exactly here.
I see you; very so often in the operating table,
But I can't hear you; as if a wall separated us,
I cried out for you; you can't hear me,
I try to hear you; I've been disturbed.
There; I met you before,
There; the place where peace never fails,
There; our foothold friendship of five,
Here; we're shattered entities of the past.
Our blood; we shall mix,
Merged; for what reason, we don't know,
Mindless as we are; survival is the top priority,
From this hell; we call them the Neo-Nazis.
A pact we made; we will fulfill,
Until then; we shall not die,
Our battle; we shall assault,
Our lives; we no longer cherish.
The Neo-Nazis; we loathed them,
For what they've done; especially to our innocent lives,
We maybe tools to their horror,
But we shall deceive them, back stab them.
A Mauser C96; I clenched,
A Walther P-38; I grasped,
Hands; we hold each other's,
We will fight; in search...
...And escape this vicious cycle...
