Carbon-based Valentines

I gave her a rose
for ValentineÂ’s; she took it
and told me she had always wanted
a brilliant cut
of that carbon crystal
of the same name. I said
a rose is made of carbon too
and red,
an arrangement of petals
soft to touch
and smells sweet.
But a diamond lasts
forever, she explained,
her eyes transparent,
hopeful; I touched
my pocketbook
and stabbed my heart instead.

Guys will have their cars and their computer games and their flat screen, wide-screen, big-screen tv whatever-whatever....us girls will have our diamonds. somethings in life just can't be explained or understood. Me, I'm still dreaming of my 1 carat

Dont spoil market leh you. I used to be unaffected by the high-class carbons like you, until I stepped foot in a jewellery shop to get my first ring for my wedding. That was the fatal step in a downward spiral that can only lead to an unhappy end for poor me!!! To look on the positive side, blinking regularly helps to moisten the eyes and keep them healthy -

To look on the positive side, blinking regularly helps to moisten the eyes and keep them healthy 
I guess I don't understand the value of them. They look nice if a person knows how to wear them, accessorise with the right clothes and all. But I was told that diamonds lose their value the minute you buy them. Is it true? -

Although it could use some trimming for example considers dropping “she took it” in L2; I love the last four lines and its ending
And yes I still owe my wife a diamond ring.

so i'm not the only woman ard who doesn't appreciate diamonds
look at it, i'll go... "wah nice leh" but see only... plus why spend so much $$ on something tat i dun wear

Guy giving girl a diamond ring has become such a cliche that it's almost a joke sometimes, yet that's what they are advertising. "Fly me to the moon" and she hold it up against the sky with tears in her eyes. I pretend to be interested in my husband's cycling and bike stuff and he returns the favour by pretending to be interested in jewellery and clothes and girly stuff.
