It's not just here, being a writer is hard life no matter where you are. Unless you have the gift, the right idea and very lucky.
I think the question should be rephrased: if you could do it for a living (pretending for a moment that writing can pay your bills), would you do it?
Personally: no. I think I like my field of work too much to give up on it.
I don't think I want to write full time for a living anyway. It's more of a hobby -- somehow, if I had to do it full time, I might not enjoy it as much.
I might feel differently when I retire. -

I love my job too much to quit.
I'm paid peanuts, I get puked at, drooled on, mangled sometimes.
My ears ring of cries for mummies and screaming matches even in my sleep.
I walk around with my paint-stained grubby tee with bits of sticky tape all over my well-worn bermudas and food bits sticking to my dishevelled hair.
Why would I want to quit to be a writer when I was already that on Monday, a painter on Tuesday, a baker on Wednesday, a dancer yesterday, would be a bubble-blower today, and maybe next week, I'll be playing a tambourine or better yet, I could be the giant in the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'!
Who on earth would want to read boring stuffy "Financial Times" when you can watch the movie "Charlotte's Web" instead?
Why on earth would you want to know the names of the top five sales person of the month, when I can rattle off the names of all the faries in Winx Club instead?
I wouldn't dream of giving up the joy of seeing my three-year-olds learn how to put on their clothes all by themselves, or hearing little Joshua say that next to mummy, daddy and invisible friend Blob, I'm the next person that he loves most.
Heck, wouldn't give it all away, especially not the chance to hug Rachelle the longest of time till she finally drift into her land of Hello Kitty, Hamtaro and candy clouds. -
well... i'm already writing full time... so. -shrug
