[Photo-Poetics] Forty One : Skyscape Esplanade

  41 years of flight,
  has your oxygen
  run out?
  
  Or are you still
  living in a world
  with hot air.
  
  Eating air,
  dreaming of Toto,
  and bickering
  over ter kwa.
  
  Kindred spirits
  wander in McDonald-land,
  lost in a sea;
  drowning in static,
  failing to find their
  plastic chairs
  in crimson light.
  
  Even in eternity,
  these good brothers
  face a media
  far worse than life.
  
  But I still gaze
  skywards
  to dream.
  
  Singapore.

  Just to add on,
  
  Forty One : Skyscape Esplanade
  
  41 years of flight,
  has your oxygen
  run out?
  
  An Intriguing start.
  
  Or are you still
  living in a world
  with hot air.
  
  Should it be a question mark?
  
  Eating air,
  dreaming of Toto,
  and bickering
  over ter kwa.
  
  I like the repetition of “air”. By the way what is a “ter kwa”?
  
  Kindred spirits
  wander in McDonald-land,
  
  Love “McDonald-land”.
  
  lost in a sea;
  drowning in static,
  failing to find their
  plastic chairs
  in crimson light.
  
  Even in eternity,
  these good brothers
  face a media
  far worse than life.
  
  I enjoyed the mood that youÂ’ve set but find these lines slightly prosy.
  
  But I still gaze
  skywards
  to dream.
  
  Singapore.
  
  Love the ending.
  
  IMO, the author is not exactly please with the present “Singapore” and thus looking forward to a better version. I am just a little confuse i.e. is the setting supposed to be in the daytime or at night and why Esplanade?

  Ter kwa = pork liver. If you heard of the bak chor mee podcast by mrbrown, you'd get what I meant..
  
  Well, I chose the Esplanade because it is a symbol of what we have taken to be our own symbol of how artificial terms and names, can be made so familiar and local, i.e "Durians".
  
  The Esplanade was the State's idea of progress into the arts scene, yet, we have a long way to go before it is a real incubator of talent, not just a fancy place to hangout with.. something like Singapore itself, trying to look funky but we all know that the substance isn't there yet, and hopefully, it appears one day.
