hey what's the big deal about studying overseas?

cam on, 4 views with zero replies. Pretend i'm someone local
that should do it to make things more welcoming -
1) Not being able to get into a local institution?
2) Local institutions do not offer the course being seeked (e.g mining). -
THanks. Coz like. I am just sick and tired of having people yelling to me "WHY THE HECK Dun you GO OVerseas!! Why u stay HERE!?! If i were U i go back to your country and STUDY! etc etc"
So i'm like what the heck is the big deal? I am ok here. Costs of relocation etc etc.
Unless i am missing something, is an overseas degree BETTER or more WHITE than a singapore degree in the same field? -
That perception is up to the individual. So one local grad couldn't get the job, tells another, word spreads, and soon you got like what:"See that ah boy, get his degree locally still cannot get job, must be overseas better lah!". What is wrong with studying in Singapore? I am Singaporean and will always be one, so I will get my degree here.
The first thing that comes to your mind when you think of studying overseas is the extra costs. Being a foreigner, you have to pay a few times more than local students (ask Sindy mei mei), and you have to look for a place to stay. Unless you are rich or have just struck the lottery, studying in Singapore seems to be the better option.
I have heard stories about how students get looked down upon as they are Asians in a Western society. I don't want to get despised, so I will study in Singapore.

Xiao mei mei ah, for Social Studies, structured essay section consists of two questions, one 12 marks and the other 13 marks. Total then 25 marks.

just kidding, ill go anywhere with better facilities as long i can afford and enter it. so it doesn't matter where this place belongs to, its the quality of education, facilities and environment.
for other people, it should be also be a matter of convinience also, thats why people like going to aussie to study but that is not my cup of tea. i dun have much family here, that i will miss anyways, so i dun really have any thing to bind me in sg. juz money and entry requirements.
problem is, singapore unis have always got this government protected, rigid and inflexible image that was already in placed since the 80s or earlier. that is, the uni people are over protected and being taught by under qualified chao uncles. of cuz recently, all these have changed and we see the quality of education improving by leaps and fold. so as long it suits my needs, than i dun mind else, if i have money and time, i will try foreign unis, secondly, if i can find a better course or expertise elsewhere, like if you wanna study about topics that you cannot find in local unis.
sure, people will change but dun forget our employers mostly are those old people with a biased against singaporean education from the beginning so its not that oversea or local unis are of any big deal but the people that are willing to hire believe that this is a big deal, as long as students want to take a job, this is the big deal. everywhere have different markets for different type of education requirements, like you can even take a course in fishing in those jap agriculture unis.
to me, doesn't matter la, as long it suits me can liao. -

Trouble with living abroad is high costs. U know how much a bottle of mineral water costs in UK? Like at least 3 pounds, aka 6 Singapore dollars, wtf! Plus there's like SUPER high taxes, every 10 pounds u make, like 5 of it goes to the govt in taxes. Free welfare bs, LONG queues and stuff in the national health scandal.
I box of chao mee fen costs like 5 pounds lol. Even though its my country, i have no attachment to it coz i have travelled throughout my youth, plus its ultra expensive to go back now to study. Like most of the ENGLISH citizenry who take uni there end up owing the govt pots of money, kinda like local teachers in bondage with the govt here
so i don't think its worth it.
Then again there's the whole race issue. But i think in uk its more anti-paki or indian than chinese.
Just stung by the way my art teacher was putting me down, like i'm a weirdo staying in Singapore for uni and not going to uk. I hope yall won't start the "grass greener on the otherside bs talk", actually the talk is nothing, just the shunning weird look i get lor. -
