It's not that they don't understand you, it's you that doesn't understand them. Are you working to feed your family? Are you facing hardships in work? Have you faced the problem of working to feed more than one mouths? Have you ever faced the hardship of having ridiculous superiors at work that demands more but always give less? Do you understand that difficulty they faced by humbling themselves before their employers and supervisors so that they can feed you.
Then you might see their many reasons why you should do well, should not waste time etc. If you failed to grasp that money is hard to earn, you will probably not understand them. They expects results, they expects their children to get a better life, to have fewer difficulties than what they are facing now. They don't want their children to miss the benefits of education, they don't want their children to indulge in relationship and end up screwing everything in their lives.
You don't understand them, not they don't understand you.
Wah......a real neat piece of work!Originally posted by Nelstar:When I was twelve,
I lived in a world by myself.
I learnt to appreciate the opposite gender,
Like a new mare on a canter.
When I was fourteen,
A hell of havoc I've been.
My hair is twisted beyond recognition,
And I couldn't be bothered with my education.
There were stars I idolize,
The familiar faces on TV we recognize.
Those were the days of he and she,
The days we yearned to be free.
When I was four years before twenty,
The buddies I had were plenty.
Always together and always there together,
Doing stupidiest of things I can remember.
We fought, we bit, also did pull and tussle,
Exams and tests were always a hassle.
We cheated, we stole, we smoke and drank,
Copied homeworks in class and full of pranks.
When we're seventeen and eighteen in college,
My grand passed away due to old age.
Never a tear I shed at their wake,
My parents crying enough to fill a lake.
Later the 'he and she' parted ways,
Tears rolled down and I cried many days.
Nothing was wrong, no one was wrong,
Except that we don't belong.
Then the day came when I start to work,
My boss was nothing but a jerk.
My pay was peanuts and my work endless,
The toughest time I had as the working class.

The youths of yesteryears will not reappear. Unless something is changed to bring them back.Originally posted by Misogynist:Apt description, youths these days are full of apathy, deceit, insolence and themselves...
What's the problem then? The education system? The 'Westernization' of this place?
I feel really disgusted though at times, awed, by their behaviour towards their elders, studies etc. Their behaviour in public is at times disgraceful and annoying.
What ever happened to our youths of yesteryears?
Is this the erosion of values? Are our parents too lax in inculcating values and morals?
Personally, I believe the handing over of paternal duties to maids and other child care agencies are the mitigating factors.
For all we know, our children will be speaking Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesia instead of Chinese dialects if we continue concentrating on paper qualifications.
The ideology of a Renaissance city will just crumble to dust should we allow this to proliferate.
Actually, when these young kids grow up, they will probably learn from their mistakes and regret. Life is too short for regrets, that's why we want them to learn before they actually experience it themselves. However, it's always hard to teach one a lesson that one had no experience in.Originally posted by deathscythe99:The youths of yesteryears will not reappear. Modern society has incalcated beliefs that there is a need for the pursual of material and monetary benefits. Modern living has raised their standard of living, thereby making them believe that what WAS a want automatically becomes a need, which is not true!
Therefore, you see young kids walking around with expensive handphones, and they are barely 14!
Why should they, do you understand them in the first place? Well, times change, people change, this question will always exists, people in the past too faced this problem, just wasn't brought into attention like today. Likewise, so will we face such problems with out kids in the future.Originally posted by Hocklez:Is that so?
