Hmm...
1. Harry Potter...
Although the kids do do some...uh... debatable stuff, the action is relatively fast moving, and they use simple vocabulary. English isn't just about using BIG BIG supercalifragalistic-blahblah words, it's also about how you link it up to form a descriptive and conclusive story.
2. Jonathan Livingston Seagull
This ROCKS!!!! =) It's a very simple story about a seagull and how he feels there's more to life than just fighting for fish... like flying! =) There are black and white pictures of seagulls and the words are simple, although the theme is quite heavy.
3. ROALD DAHL BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROCKS ALSO!!!!! ROCKS ROCKS ROCKS!!!!! Great storyline, a few big words here and there, MARVELLOUS STORYTELLING!!!! Hmm.... if you like sweets, try reading charlie's chocolate factory or charlie and the great glass elevator. matilda is interesting, provided you dont get intimidated by a brainy girl... =-=""" oh yes! he wrote a lot of other books like the twits, and the one about the mouse and his grandma and the witches...cant remember the name...they're packed up in boxes. I also read some of his adult works like unexpected tales....quite freaky some of the story O.o GEORGE'S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE! is another nice one.
4. My Family and Other Animals
If you're interested in animals and biology... this is great too...it's only boring in some parts where they describe the scenery...otherwise you can learn about the weird animals and the even weirder adventures this family gets on
Anyway, my advice is to pick up something you already have and interest in... Like if you like playing basketball, pick up a book which teaches you how to play better or a book about a basketball player. Or you're interested in nature, you can pick up a guidebook with pictures.... key thing is interest
Maybe if you tell us what you're interested in, we can recommend books that suit your taste?
