Bus catches fire along Yishun St 11; no reported injuries
SINGAPORE: A bus went up in flames along Yishun Street 11 on Thursday afternoon (Sep 15), damaging the entire rear section of the vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
A spokesperson for SCDF said it was alerted to the blaze at about 4.35pm. The fire involved the engine compartment of the bus, according to SCDF, which despatched a fire engine, a red rhino and two fire bikes to the scene.
The fire was extinguished using two water jets, SCDF said, adding that five passengers evacuated before its arrival.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, SCDF said.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the vehicle is a private bus.
Eyewitness Ng Leong Keong sent in video of the incident. He told Channel NewsAsia that the fire started at about 4.30pm and "engulfed the entire rear of the bus shortly".
Mr Ng added that he heard a few bangs and there was a strong smell of burning metal in the air when the fire occurred.
