Overall, the number of such fires for the first three months of this year is comparatively lower than the two previous years. The largest fire this month occurred on 2nd March along Yishun Ring Road. The fire involved a thick patch of vegetation measuring an area of about 5 metres by 10 metres (less than a ¼ of a football field). The SCDF extinguished the fire using two water jets within an hour.
Yesterday, SCDF attended to 20 incidents of fire involving pockets of vegetation. The largest incident measured an area of merely 2 metres by 10 metres. This occurred near the junction of Tampines Ave 1 and Tampines Ave 10. SCDF was alerted at about 10:50 am and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes using two water jets. The other remaining 19 fire incidents are even smaller with each measuring an average area of 2 meters by 2 meters and extinguished either with one water jet or handheld canvas beaters. Most of these fires involved shrubs along the centre dividers of the PIE and BKE.
